Not really a big deal. Especially with mom. I didn't start early anyway, but we are friends as adults and she has no issue with it in regular conversation.

It's not like I'm F-boming the hell out of her

You have to understand that I came from a family where my grandmother called me 'dipshit' as a term of endearment.

Probably around high school. Its strange but my family cusses all the time in front of each other but NEVER around anybody else or children.

I remember being a senior in high school and dropping some curse words around my parents; but never directed at them.

Ironically, I now think that cursing is just immature and trashy; I wouldn't allow my kids to do it around me.

You're asking the wrong question. That question should be something more along the lines of "When did you grow up and not feel the need to curse?"

Excuse me, but I have never subscribed to the idea that any sort of cursing qualifies as being trashy or crass. Obviously, when such language is used excessively or in public than it reflects poorly on the speaker.

However, I view them as adult words used to express extreme emotions and feelings suitable for an adult.

If someone cuts me off in traffic am I supposed to just mutter under my breath "sassafras, sassafras, sassafras" or "aw fiddlesticks"?

I started cussing like a sailor in grade 2. Learned it from my daddy.

My dad never particularly cared. He thought that the taboo against certain words/sounds is silly. They are just modes of expression. Sometimes frick is the appropriate word to use. He just didn't want me to rely on them too much. And he wanted me to be cognizant of my company when I used certain language e.g. my grandparents.

Some words still bother my mom a little.

Considering I sit in an office all day with my parents and deal with Truck Drivers, theyve heard me drop quite a few F bombs, much less everything else.

I was never allowed to say "crap", "that sucks", or anything worse than that (ever). I said a bad word when I was little and got my mouth washed out with soap. Learned that lesson early on and never tested the rule again.

Nowadays, the only thing I will say around my parents is "that sucks" but I still feel a bit uncomfortable doing it. I don't really curse that much anyway though. Maybe it worked...

ETA: I never heard my parents curse growing up either except on rare occasions in which we almost got in a wreck, or when my mom lost control skiing (a certain "S word" would escape every time )

I'll be sure to, next time I see them. Also on the ban-list: PG-13 movies, Rugrats, TV in the room, and phone after 9:00 PM

My dad is 91, and in my entire life I've never heard him swear, or curse. In respect for him, I have never cursed or swore in his presence, (where he could hear me anyway).
