and the Tigers appearance last year in post-season made him only the second LSU head coach in SEC history to take the Tigers to a tournament in the first two years.

so misleading. The "post-season tournament" is the damn NIT. Doesn't mean squat.

He's the only coach in LSU history to do it, NIT or otherwise...

We do not know how much, if any, is guaranteed either.

It's all guaranteed, it's a contract. Not like for NFL players, where they have to actually make the roster to get paid.

If LSU fires him this year, he'll be due all of that money. If he gets another job coaching, LSU would get to deduct his salary at his new school from what they owe him.

Worth it. He was getting paid 12th most in SEC... That's just sad. Well deserved.

We were paying Trent 1.2mm and Jones has been MUCH better than TJ. The 1.1mm he was getting was too low.
I think getting paid 12th in the SEC is about right considering his accomplishments (zilch) and overall resume (thin).

TJ had a nice contract because he had a really nice NCAA tourney run, and had a great resume from Stanford.

Missouri's coach has a base contract of $1.1 million. Does JJ deserve more than him?

You want to base everything on results yet you think Jones deserves 12th most money after finishing 8th (out of 14) in his first year and 6th (out of 14) in his second year? We are being predicted to be 3rd or 4th this year.

The three years before he came here we finished:

8th (out of 12)
12th (out of 12)
12th (out of 12)

You are delusional.

Johnson ran this program into the ground.

In the three season's Haith has been in Missouri, his teams have gotten worse and worse. I think you put too much weight into a good first season and not on the direction either coach is bringing the program.

Overall, I like Jones, but I do think that after the season would've been the appropriate time to address an extension/raise. I may be in the minority here, but I'm starting to wonder about Jones' ability to recruit.

Yeah, yeah I know all about Ben Simmons, but we need some complementary pieces too, and so far, we've missed out on a fair amount of "priority" targets. I realize it's tough at LSU to go toe-to-toe with the bball bluebloods, but maybe we need to set our sights on SEC type team players that will be here 3-4 years as opposed to the flashy one and done players.

That being said, we desperately need Sampson or Blakeney in that 2016 class.

You want to pay him based on the previous coach that got fired? Guess what, that guy is getting paid $0 by LSU this year because of those records.

So after earning a salary of $1.1 million, cJJ should get more because he was better than the guy who got fired? I am sorry, but while LSU isn't Kentucky, they aren't Vandy either. Finishing 8th and 6th with NIT bids shouldn't give you a raise. I would have expected that for a decent coach. If he didn't finish that well he should never have gotten the job.

This coming year is where we learn a lot about him as a coach. We get to see how he develops players and a team. I think (hope) he will be good and earn another raise. However I can't say that the previous years have shown me more than flashes of promise with some possible shortcomings.

He actually left while still under contract...

Anyways, seems like the intelligent way to compare his pay would be against others in the SEC.

Haith doesn't coach at Mizzou anymore. They hired a coach from a tiny school to replace. That's how they got him cheap, much like LSU did.
