And it's everywhere - the entire system is tainted. You see what they tried to do in Florida in 2000.

God forbid there's a real technical error, cause y'all gone blame errbody.

When you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

ETA: There might be some voter fraud, somewhere, but every minor issue is going to have this board thinking it's rampant and obvious.

Are these the Argentine, er Venezuelan, voting machines Hugo Chavez used? Or the Iraqi voting machines Saddam endorsed?

Edit to add obvious

A calibration error would mean if an input registered 1.0 the resulting output would be 1.01.

This is a boolean error. That is only two possible values were possible. It's binary.

The chances of this being a deliberate programing error are extremely high.

It may be coincidental, but when the technical errors happens on voting machine of one is the candidates and causes him/her to vote for the opponent, it is newsworthy. Besides regardless if it was intentional or an error, it is trouble because it compromises the democratic process for those voters on that machine, and it calls into question every machine. If only a small fraction of machines have "calibration errors" then the results of some of those races are essentially invalid.

It definitely is, and I want it fixed immediately. Changing vendors would probably be a good call, if it weren't so late in the game. If it's still possible, I'd do it.

That doesn't mean the first response should be "CONSPIRACY"

Well I have used touch screens that choose the wrong option. It's still inexcusable but I don't necessarily think it has to be an intentional programming error. Either way, incompetence or corruption, this is a bad situation.

If I wanted to rig the vote, I'd program the display to show exactly what the voter inputted, and then transmit whatever votes I wanted. The voter would never know.

Okay. I thought about this a little more. The programming might be fine. However the touch screen alignment with the GUI might be f'd up. I can buy that excuse a little more, but just a little.

That's what I was about to say. The ATM down the street from my house is always like that.
