re: Honestly, all jokes aside. What would make MLB more marketable in the South?

Last year, the Marlins scheduled a game against the Zephyrs after spring training. This was the first time an MLB team had even played a game in over 15 years in New Orleans. You would think that even the average MLB fan would take interest in this and want to go watch professional players right? The game barely sold 6k tickets. I know it doesn't directly translate to having a home MLB team but how is a New Orleans team supposed to sell 20,000+ tickets if they can't even spark interest?

WTF do we have to copy those dumbass European club names? Chivas USA? Reyalllll Salt Lake? Sporting Kansas City?
That shite is lame and forced. It's a mistake to do that.

Funny. KC used to be the Wizards. Dallas Burn?
They thought copying would increase support.

Because Americans hate European pretentiousness. Especially if it's faked and forced.
We like Armani because it's Armani and authentic. We like Bayern Munich because they're fantastic and authentic. But if you name an MLS team "Bayern Minneapolis" that is inauthentic and dumb, and Americans will be able to sense that.
Just name the team "Minneapolis Abominables" and call them the "Bombers". It's cool because Minny is cold and the Abomianable Snowman is fricking cool and cold. And American. And what the frick is "Reyalll" or "Bayern" or "Sporting" or "Chevis" or "FC" anyway?

Well Bayern means Bavaria in German, so Bayern Minneapolis would be about the dumbest shite imaginable. But I agree in general with MLS trying too hard to mimic European naming customs for teams

You honestly think people factor this in when thinking about a local MLS team?

I guess you don't realize how popular MLS has become in the US. The numbers show that either people aren't "sensing" this fake European pretentiousness.

and now I don't even know why I'm trying to debate this with you
It is kind of funny you mention the team name Bombers, back in the day they couldn't give away enough tickets to draw interest

NOLA is relatively small when it comes to market size, especially for a team/ sport that has never been in the city

Look, do y'all want a baseball team or not?
It seems about as simple as that.
Say what you want, it passes the summer, is lots of fun, and when your team is playing in October it's like nothing else.
It seems to me that a town like NO could grow a fan base real quick, and MLB is real good at growing and showing, just take a look at the Rays.

I liked how he ranted about how Americans want their football teams named but still doesn't even know what FC even means. He's well informed on both sides of the issue obviously

No. Pro baseball sucks.

I wish there was an MLS team popping up closer to Memphis then Atlanta, but until that happens I plan on bandwagoning the shite out the Atlanta team that is starting up in 2017.
To answer the OP, the South loves baseball. It is mostly a regional sport because having to watch baseball on TV is an absolute poor and pales in comparison to actually attending a game. Baseball games in person are a blast.

What makes you think the south needs more teams? The Braves have a solid fan base here in Alabama, as well as Tennessee and the Carolinas. People in other parts of the region follow the Astros and Cards as well. You act like just because we don't have as many teams that people down here aren't MLB fans

Pro football is massively popular in the NE, college isn't
Pro baseball is massively popular in the NE, college isn't
It's the opposite in the south.
Its what people had 50-75 years ago and it's developed a culture. It would take a long time to change either one.

Chivas had shitty owners and tried to market the team to only Mexicans. Add to the fact that the team was terrible and that's why they aren't going to field a team the next two years while they sell the team, rebrand, and build a new stadium.
