I'll refrain from derailing the OP's thread into a high fence hate thread

No this is a cull! Mature deer with terrible genes. I should of killed him last week too!

Yours is a young deer. Give him another year, he may surprise you. Like I said earlier he'll never be a giant but he could be a nice little rack buck next year.

We have one very similar to that on our place, but the f-ed up side has 3 or 4 little kickers

As they should be. That's why people hunted to begin with.

Don't see nothing wrong with that deer. He has a spread of about 14" across his arse.

I hunt for meat but really don't see the point of shooting a young buck when there are plenty of does to be killed for meat.

I would not. Genes are hard to control since half of them come from the mother and there's no way in the wild to tell which does throw inferior bucks. If you're killing by age then let him grow and you may be surprised. I hunt 100 acres and I realize that every buck I let walk might not make it until next season but I know for certain he won't if I shoot him. Just maybe the neighbor that kills him is 9 years old and thinks your "cull" is the greatest first deer skull mount ever.

I would not but I always say - your place, your call. What is a good buck to take for one man may not be for another. Good luck this year!

My dad, my uncles and most of my cousins would have shot him last year.

If you need / want the meat shoot it

If its a trophy, shoot it

If it will improve the herd, shoot it

Shooting it because if you don't your neighbor will is greedy
