I'm not buying the Harris "playbook" excuse. He's been in the program since January and he seems like a bright kid. He knows the playbook.

Yes, it was called "The Bench".

Here's his entire bio for his first season at LSU

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2011)
Played in five games with no starts … Completed 8-of-11 passes for 92 yards and his first career touchdown on a 19-yard strike to Kadron Boone against Northwestern State … Ran 25 yards on a bootleg down to the one-yard line at Ole Miss ... Entered late against Auburn, West Virginia, and Kentucky and did not attempt a pass as the team ran out the clock.

To be fair, he has turned the wrong way several times this year.

That's right. I forgot about the 2011 season.

So what we have here is one QB with limited skill and adequate knowledge of the playbook and another QB with advanced skills and limited knowledge of the playbook?

I would say that was a fair evaluation.

He redshirted his first year. By the time he began playing in his RS soph season of 2011 he had the playbook down. He then changed coordinators in 2013 and had to learn a new playbook.

That's what my sources tell me.

Why does "everybody" have difficulty learning the playbook at LSU? This is what I want to know. What is the ONE constant at LSU? (QB's come and go).

I don't think so, but he did have that cool set up in between those big crates where no one could see him and he couldn't see anyone else.....

Not really sure, but I wish that the hitches and comeback routes we had back then would be part of the WR routes this year.

We got METT from JUCO. His freshman year he attended Georgia until he was suspended.

Mett did not red shirt at LSU Randy. He had very limited action in 11, then started in 12 and 13.

QB's at LSU are generally asked to manage the game via checks, reads, adjustments, etc. It's not that they don't know the "plays", they just don't have the experience to make the right decisions based on what the defense if giving them. Schools like A&M, Miss State, Auburn, etc. don't task the QB with those responsibilities.

Bama has the same issue this year, they've had countless top QB prospects come and go with none developing while McCarron started. That's why they're working their way through the season with a 5th year senior that they really don't want out there.

I think the play calling was either uncreative or stupid, so he looked like an idiot a lot his first couple of months as a starter. Does anyone remember the Florida game in 2012? It was like Jennings on a bad day. Then they completed like a 50-yard pass, but then there was a fumble on the same play.

I don't know about this "know the playbook" theory for Harris.

Yeah its more like he doesn't know the plays at all.

Turns the wrong way, has to burn timeouts, throws in the stands because he doesn't know where receivers are running, etc.

The kid is a freshmen, and he plays like one. He will get better, but you can't just force him in there and expect him to learn on the fly. That's a great way for him to develop bad habits.

Why does everyone act like the QB position is so easy to play? There are only like 15 effective QBs in the entire NFL. When people say we run a pro system, its not just power I. Qbs are expected to make reads and anticipate deeper routes.

No he had a train wreck of a OC. Stud calling Krag's plays wasn't a great idea. But we were so solid running the ball in 2011 that you can't really fire him that year.

Cam is not only probably the first coach that really developed a QB, but he is also the best OC we have had since Jimbo.

Its the difference between knowing your class material and really knowing it so that you can bust it out on a test.

When you blank it is because you don't know it well enough. He probably could tell you any play on the street, but when the pressure is one (and at Auburn the pressure was on) he wasn't ready.
