how is our defense even lining up without welter out there? I expected pure chaos without his calming presence.

They trotted him out there on the last couple drives. The Defense gave up no points....so I guess we should expect him to be rotating with Beckwith soon.

How is it possible it took the coaching staff this long to realize something most fans figured out halfway through last season?

I wouldn't say Beckwith has emerged. He's marginally better than Welter thus far. He's still very young, though, and should have been starting all along.

Nah, he could run it 15 times for 5 yards and it will still be because he sucks, or shitty play calling, etc.

I agree. We should also give props to the entire D-line, particularly Hunter and Rasco, who have really stepped it up in the last 2 games after a very shaky start to the season. Since we shored up the middle, it really allowed our back 4 to make plays. What Chavis has been able to cobble together at DT is nothing short of miraculous when you consider the absence of Valentine and Trey L. and the limited availability of Thomas. Lacouture is the only guy with extensive PT at DT that had any kind of prior experience there.

Idk guys, do you really think that Beckwith will be able to line up the defense well enough to beat Ole Miss?

I mean, I guess Welter was so busy lining up the defenses so well that he forgot to make actual plays.

This. The D-Line has improved a ton and part of that has to do with the opponents. Beckwith will be very good, just isn't there yet.

The return of QT and our last two opponents have helped in this regard too.

So pump the brakes a lille. We have Ole Miss and Bama coming up next. They are a little better test than UF and KU.

Marginally? He made plays Saturday that Welter couldn't do in his wildest dreams. Here's the stats. Keep in mind that Welter has a ton more snaps under his belt than Beckwith this season.

K. Beckwith LB 17 unassisted - 24 assissted 41 total 3 TFLs

D.J. Welter LB 5 unassisted - 26 assisted 31 total 1 TFL

Well, we were getting gashed by the likes of ULM and NMSU too so there's that.

At this point if anyone isn't convinced beckwith is the main reason our interior d has looked considerably better, then they are likely trolling.

Beckwith and Adams look good but you also have to factor in the competition the past couple games.

Ole Miss will temper the new found excitement of the LSU fan base. Ole Miss wins by at least two scores

I'm happy Bain is getting some quality reps at DT. But, it does go to say we don't have quality depth at DT when we all are begging to see RS Fr in the game.

"in Chief we trust!!"

The load of bullshite he was feeding the media prior to this season regarding the improved welter just pisses me off. Are you a liar or just simply in denial?

playing shitty QBS has changed this defense

Dang guy, you must live a miserable life. What does the quality of QB have to do with the two of them making plays on non-QBs? They both have been making plays all over the field and at and behind the line of scrimmage, that's a fact and has nothing to do with the QB.

I thought Dwayne Thomas and Hunter were our best players before Thomas got injured, with Kwon looking in from his linebacking spot.

Now, it looks like Hunter, Kwon, Beckwith and Adams have stepped forward - but they're not only looking to be the best players on defense, they're making the rest of the defense play better.

I don't want to forget RR and Tre, because they're still doing what they do - it's just teams haven't tested them as much as our run defense, thus far. Run defense is firming up, big time.
