I'm a long time AT&T customer and my Verizon friends consistently have better coverage and a stronger connection than I do, especially in stadiums. I used to think this was bc AT&T had more customers that overloaded the towers but I don't think that's the case anymore.
This came to a fever pitch for me a few weeks ago when I was in AT&T stadium, yet my phone wouldn't work while my Verizon friends would

It's the exact opposite scenario out west. AT&T is infinitely better than verizon west of say, Colorado.

AT&T is better in the country, Verizon in the city.

More towers. And.......Sprint is the worst and it's not even close. They can give unlimited data cause you can never use the shite.

Verizon has more towers around the interstate and in major cities than AT&T does.

This used to be the case. I have iphones for each provider and the ATT is significantly faster and the coverage is no worse. The only exception is when I am out in the woods, VZW is better in rural SC.

In your example it is because Verizon works on CDMA technology which has better inbuilding (in this case in the stadium) penetration. Each carrier has its strengths and weaknesses. One of Verizon's biggest advantages is being able to deliver better service in buildings with thick walls.

Little known fact: Verizon does not work in buildings with a metal roof, but AT&T does. I can't explain it but I have tested it many time and it is the truth.

In the big scheme of things it's not a big deal, unless you have a metal roof on your house or office.

Don't know about south LA but in NELA Verizon bought out AllTel a few years after Alltel bought out Centurytel. Centurytel was based in north LA so they already had this area blanketed.

I assume Verizon took over all of the old Alltel/Centurytel towers so that would explain the better coverage.

Maybe they also bought out other smaller cell companies in other places too.

They have more cell towers and maintain their towers far more than AT&T does.

It's different in different places. On AT&T I have had a solid LTE connection all the way from San Angelo, TX to Gulf Shores, AL. Verizon only has LTE coverage for about half of that span.

It's not? At least here on the east coast. Maybe you live in the boonies.

The reason it is a lot better in South Louisiana is because Verizon bought out Centennial Wireless in which came all of the Centennial towers also. Well AT&T was also using Centennial towers at that time but when the contract ran out Verizon didn't renew it causing a big loss of towers for AT&T. In result AT&T service now sucks

I've had my phone service ever since it was Suncom then Cingular and now AT&T. I never have any issues other than in Tiger Stadium. The reason it's like that there is Verizon is a major LSU sponsor and floods the area with mobile towers for game day. However, they've been adding boosters and tweaking them all year. There won't be a full blanket boost to all carriers in TS until next year. Also, it's a big deal to people that use their phones for work to be able to talk and use the internet at the same time. In 2014 you still can't do that with Verizon. That's crazy.
