Nixon or Reagan. Both big spenders and increased the size of government.

LOL no, it is pretty clear why Obama takes top spot. You will get it one of these days. Well once you drop from the 47% roles.

Besides raising taxes? You know he raised taxes 11 times, including four times in two years?
You realize he tripled the fed budget deficit?
You realize that he created the Department of Veteran Affairs? He bailed out SS and set up the progressive taxation system to fund it. You realize he increased payroll and employee taxes? And for the first time included fed workers in SS. And for the first time taxed SS benefits. And on the upper income earners. Lol. Oh, and he didn't index it to inflation. So, more and more have to pay.
Under Reagan federal workers increased by over 60k. Under Clinton it decreased by over 300k.
He promised to cut the dept of Ed and energy and didn't. He promised to reign in the socialism of SS and Medicaid. Didn't.
In all facets he increased the fed. More workers, more departments, any more spending.
I'm not going to touch his AIDs policy or the GOP support for apartheid.

I love the "reagan raised taxes 11 times" talking point. Let's examine the facts:
When Reagan entered office, there were 16 tax brackets, ranging from marginal rates from 14 to 70 percent. When he left office, there were two tax brackets, ranging in marginal rates from 15 to 28%.
Now onto your assertion about the tax increases. Yes, he raised certain tax rates. Every president has. The important thing is that they do not carry the same weight as the dramatic across the board decreases in income taxes that happened under his watch.
The real story is how he raised taxes and how he cut them. And the overarching theme is that Reagan dramatically lowered tax rates and broadened the base. If you aggregate together all the tax hikes and increases under him, he, by far, is a net tax cutter.
Most of the tax hiks under Reagan happened in bills he signed where he was promised spending cuts, but never got them. The most shameful example is the 1982 Fiscal Responsibility Act.
Reagan was offered such a deal (a 3-1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases) in 1982, and it’s the reason he reluctantly agreed to the largest tax increase of his presidency. The Democratic Congress then promptly proceeded to ignore the planned spending cuts.
The 1980s house democrats were the biggest spenders in American history. Everything you chided reagan for in your above post (federal hiring, SS, medicaid, etc) is the result of Tip Oneill.

Almost every single thing you posted was congressional authority, with Tip O'neill at the helm.
You do realize there were plenty of republicans that opposed what Reagan did. As former GOP Senator Alan Simpson, who called Reagan "a dear friend," told NPR, "Ronald Reagan raised taxes 11 times in his administration—I was there."
Let me guess, Tip forced Ronnie to support the socialistic eitc. From American Prospect: Almost 20 years ago, as he signed into law the tax bill expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, President Ronald Reagan hailed it as "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress."

Oh for god's sake, buckybager, get off your fricking high horse. There has not been a single president ever that has not raised taxes. Ever. You have to look at the aggregate. Also, do you have any idea how many times Reagan agreed to bills with tax hikes in them because he was promised by house dems that there would be spending cuts? They never happened, because Tip O'neill was a fricking liar.
You are what is wrong with Wisconsin.

You are just an apologist. Another socialist pretending to be a conservative.

quote:You are treating tax hikes as if they are all equal. They are not. I know right off the bat that two miniscule tax hikes that happened under reagan were a 5 cent gas tax increase and a cigarette tax increase. Both of those were parts of spending bills formed by house democrats.
they all raised taxes 11 times?
The one that Reagan should be criticized for is the increase in capital gains taxes, as part of the 1986 spending bill.

The question was who was the worst. I'm sorry that you can't allow anyone to have a differing opinion. I'm not treating all as equal. I simply acknowledging that at every instance Reagan found a way to increase taxes. Working with other leftists or on his own.
Should we discuss his response to aids or his support of apartheid? Or his amnesty of millions of illegals? Should we talk about censorship and the Meese Commission?
I get it. You are a socialist that is looking to defend your far left president. That's cool. How long have you been a far left winger?

LBJ really fricked us, but it's Bush's fault now, in 2 years it'll be the Muslims fault. Thumb up

Obama. 1992.
"If you like your plan, you can keep it."
"I ended the war in Iraq."
"Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism."
Because of Obamacare, "over the last two years, health care premiums have gone up -- it's true -- but they've gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years."
"I made a bunch of these promises during the campaign. ... We've got about 60 percent done in three years."
The Bush administration had been "giving Billions of Dollars and asking for nothing in return."
"There is no disagreement that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help to jump-start the economy."
