-was riding my bike home one night (had all my lights on) and was hit bar a car from behind. I was launched from my bike, went over the hood, and landed about 12 feet in front of my bike. The car kept on going. Only wound up with a few scrapes on my elbows and was sore for a few days. My bike had a few scrapes and a part of the left pedal was chipped off. If I wasn't wearing a helmet, it would've been much worse.

-was carjacked by gunpoint. I didn't do anything stupid and just complied. People have been saying I'm lucky they didn't shoot me anyway.

Car accident. Almost lost a hand, lost a whole lot of blood, "flatlined" twice in the ambulance and 3 times in the ER.

These threads always make me afraid of walking out my front door for fear of a piano plummeting from the sky and crushing me

When I drove my truck off the side of the road straight into a tree ( the pictures are posted here in the OB). Two truck driver and cop both said I should have been ejected and went head first into the tree no seatbelt.

Lucky for me I didnt weigh enough at the time to break the windshield I just cracked my skull on it. Went on to work the whole day didnt even go to hospital.

Week after back surgery, developed blood clot in left leg causing it to swell up. Was rushed to hospital. Threw clot to my right lung, was made to stay in bed for 11 days at the hospital while on blood thinners. Dealing with all of this after back surgery, basically had to learn to walk with a walker before they would let me leave the hospital.

My next flight is Air France out of ORD. That may be the thing that finally gets me. I hate Air Frog.

No… but I did see a bright light and felt completely at peace. Take it for whatever you want, but I know what and where I was…

I've never been close. I've never even had a broken bone. My sad boring life.

The bright light was probably just lack of oxygen to your brain.

Was shot at once. When in college, I worked for a company in BR that's up in the ghetto. One day they asked me to go to the bank to make the daily deposit. It was literally next door so I walked. On the way back, I hear a shot and hear it hit the bushes right next to me.

I raced motocross for a long time, had several close calls there. Landed directly on my head over a 65-70 ft jump with the bike landing on top of me. Concussion, separated shoulder, broken collar bone, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. When I got to the hospital I told the Dr. I wanted to go home. He told me I'd likely go into shock and die before I made it home. That statement scared me a bit.

I was in Iraq and while giving a talk to the locals a guy threw a shoe at me.

I dodged it and, that fricker got taken down.

They thought it was a grenade.

I was 19, in the woods in the middle of nowhere. By the time it was over I know that I had a concussion, and probably should have been in the emergency room.

I was doing good 1 on 1 till the dudes friend jumped in, then others jumped in and it was a brawl by a bonfire. The only thing I had to help with any pain was whiskey. Happened on my mom's birthday too, didn't want her to know what really happened so we said we were involved in a car wreck, which looked believable.

The two times I know of are:

1. At the end of my drinking in 1995 I was leaving a bar in Georgetown, was struck by a car and landed in the middle of M Street. If there was any passing traffic I would have been dead. Good thing it was about 3:30 am.

2. In 1997 after an angioplasty I was given a medication that I turned out to be the 1 in a bazillion who had an allergic reaction. That reaction was that it shut down my immune system. I was told I would be dead before my 46th birthday -- about a month later. I was pretty sick, had Last Rites three times (though I did not know it). I was pretty lucky. My body, the absence of the medication, new medication, the doctors at Georgetown, and the hand of God worked in concert so that I was able to generate white blood cells again. My case was written up as I was the only one in my age group that survived it without a bone marrow transplant.

Moral of the story: Only the good die young.

ETA: I also coded on the night of the angioplasty. Only got through the first couple of lines of an Act of Contrition before I woke up. I didn't see a white light, but also didn't see those scary creatures from "Ghost".

Must be fact...

Got shot at pretty much point blank with a 12 ga trying to get in the middle of a guy beating the hell out a girl I went to HS with. He missed, she stayed with him, I learned a lesson.

Two bad situations in small planes, both with low-time pilots. Another lesson learned.

Couple of car deals where I got behind on my steering. I slow down in the rain now.

If I live long enough, I'll be a damn genius.
