Wanting to know how much I should want one of these. Anyone that's got one is welcomed to chime in and let me know what purposes you'd use it for personally and just the overall use value the gun has!

I know if I get one I wanna go with the side eject.

Why should I want one of these?

Marlin lever FTW. Never even seen a 30/30 semi-auto.

Remlins have quality issues. You should still be able to get a Marlin made last decade, before they were bought out and the factory was moved, for a good price.

If you are asking why a 336, it's because there are two quintessential lever action .30-30's. The winchester 94 and Marlin 336. The Marlin is a side ejector and perfect if you want to mount a scope.

Marlin or Henry

They're great hunting rifles for Louisiana. Not so great for 300+ yard shots at Elk in Colorado.

More valuable and fit/finish were better but they aren't any more accurate. The 336W's are entry-level and that's the expectation if you get one. Mine functions well, the action has really smoothed out with use, and it's very, very accurate. Looking at a stainless 45/70 guide model and they are definitely made to higher standards. Remlins in general have gotten a lot better in recent years but some won't give up on a good gripe no matter what. Go out and handle a few then put a XSSS rail on it if you get one.

Because currently you can purchase a Marlin made by Marlin that is less than 10 years old for a decent price right now. Why buy a remlin? They'll still be producing them for years to come, so you can buy one later.

to the best of my knowledge, a 30/30 Semi-auto does not exist. If you're dead-set on the SA, find an SKS in 7.62x39 which is comparable : 100-125 yd rifle with open sights. Add a scope which may extend effective distance to 150 yds.

or you could find a Browning BAR in 308 which is an entirely different animal

Have a Marlin. It is a great brush gun, and it would kill any deer or pig that I've ever come across.

Because you can buy a brand new Remlin that will shoot just as well for a lot less. Besides, Remlins have gotten a lot better in recent years and in most respects are equal to the JM's. The wood isn't as nice (but the laminate stocks are) but who is griping about that on a roughly $300 rifle? Those who have nothing better to do than gripe. I know a lot of lever-gun addicts and when it comes down to Marlins and working on them it doesn't matter if it's JM or Remlin they are doing the exact same work on them but one is going to be at a significantly reduced price.

Don't overlook an older marlin 336 chambered for 35 Rem.
If it was me buying another lever gun I'd get an older 35 made when the wood was still good quality and nice and slim.

Or if I was going the open site rout I'd get a winchester 94.
The ones made before all the extra added safeties and rebounding hammer.

I have a 336w with fat shitty stocks and a 2-7x32 scope.

Shoots extremely well no matter what I feed it. Kills lots of deer.

A 336 with a 2-7 scope is in a climbing stand

Forgive me Clames, but your claims simply do not bear scrutiny. I have seven Marlin lever guns that are all pre-Remington and the fit, finish, and performance are all excellent. On the other hand, I purchased two "Remlins" ('09,'12) that were incredibly poor in every way imaginable. I disassembled these guns to find that the machining was so substandard that it was no wonder that they would not cycle properly. I gave these guns to a friend who was a machinist and he put an incredible amount of work into them to get them to cycle. They are still incapable of any kind of group, however.

You can purchase excellent condition used Marlin leverguns (esp. .30-30 cal.) for less than a new "Remlin" any day of the week. I bought two in just the last eight months. I do not know why anyone would take a chance on a "Remlin".

What Remington did to the great Marlin name is unforgivable.

They have gotten better, but you can usually pick out a piece of shite pretty easily when you put your hands on it.

Yes, the real marlins are always better. All other things equal, the stocks are nicer.
