That is sad to hear. Like many others here I am a Type 1 also, diagnosed at 20, 28 years old now. I've never had my BS go that low, never had to go to the hospital for it accept for when I was diagnosed. I use a Medtronic pump and have always had good control but slacked off early this year and my A1C got up to 7.2 so I started wearing the In-Lite Sensor and really like it. A1C has come back down to around 6.7. I would definitely recommend a sensor for your Dad if he is not able to feel his low's in time. Good luck!

I'm glad he's okay and will be praying....but posting it on TD would be way down my list of things to do for the day.

Sadly both of my parents have passed. Miss them both everyday. Listen to the OP, don't ever take them for granted and spend as much time as you can with them.I could kick myself in the arse for not doing this.

I have the newest Medtronic but I don't use the blood glucose continual monitoring. One thing stuck in my stomach is enough.

I'm im Monroe. Use Rangaraj. Youngest patient of hers by 30 years

Eta: I'm 24. Diagnosed at 6. Had pump now for 10 years. Love it.

Haha yea I'm always the youngest patient in my Drs office when I go for my checkup. I stick my sensor in my thighs, a lot less sweat and like you said you don't want a second site in your stomach. Works really well and I typically get a week out of it.

Hate to be that guy but my mom has type 1 and has almost died about 30 times in my life including being in the hospital with priests coming to give last rights.

nothing like being 5 years old and having to take the wheel of a vehicle on the huey p long bridge after your mom goes into diabetic shock. I have actually wished my mom would die so she would stop having to be in the hospital.

good luck. Type 1 is a bitch.

Diabetic comas don't just happen. At 71, is he still able to keep an eye on his levels himself? I've had family members with T1 that went to shite not maintaing proper levels consistently. Its a bitch when one has to lose some limbs over what diabetes can do. Glad your pops is ok though!

My GF is a type 1. It definitely takes constant effort to maintain proper BS levels. I've never seen her go into it, but I know she's gone into DKA twice. It's a bitch of a disease. Thank God for modern medicine and science.

I am type one been one since I was 7. It is 31 years ago this week I found out. Only time I have ever been to hospital is for food poisoning and stomach bug. Other that things have been good.

I am on the Medtronic pump I had the cgl but quit wearing because I Hated 2 sticks. I am about to get a new one but I doubt I do the cgl again. My last a1c. Was 6.2 best it's ever been.

I have been looking for other diabetics on here good to see a few more pumpers out there on here.
