Damn, what a day. My father is a Type I diabetic and he went into a Diabetic Coma this morning. He was taken to the ER and they were able to bring him back. It is by far the closest call that he has had in his many years of fighting that disease. He is 71 years old and fortunately, strong as a mule and about as stubborn as one too.

Needless to say, it really shook me up. Be sure and tell your parents that you love them and visit them as often as possible.

ETA:
I guess I should do an update. He was in the ER all day today. They sent him home around 5 PM. He is doing much better.

His case is a really difficult one where back in the early 1960's he was in a horrific auto accident and he sustained some brain damage. He healed and went on and had a great productive life and a good career with IBM. In recent years, he has really deteriorated and he can't seem to manage his Diabetes. He constantly makes mistakes with his insulin and he is at times very difficult to deal with. My poor Mother really busts her arse caring for him but, it is a real challenge for her. I have a brother and sister and we all try to help out as much as possible.

Thanks to everybody for the warm wishes. I really do appreciate it. Those of you who have Diabetes, I pray for all of you. It is a terrible disease and those who have never been affected bi it can't imagine the challenges that you face every day of your lives.

Glad to hear your father came out okay.

My BFF from high school is a Type 1 diabetic and I have found her in a diabetic coma twice. It's some scary shite and a terrible disease.

Hope he gets to feeling 100% very soon.

The shite that you have to deal with is terrible. I really wish you the best.

My sister also has it. She uses an insulin pump which has changed her life. He is a Nurse by profession. She finds it ironic that she often has to care for people who have less medical issues that she suffers from.

I was blessed and it missed me.

it is funny, I'm applying to medical schools now

Once you get it down to a routine, it really isn't all that bad. Pain in the arse for sure but there are worse things out there for sure as well

That is great. A friend of ours is wrapping up MS at the program in Dominica. She has really enjoyed it and she will be a damned good doctor very soon. She is currently doing a rotation in London.

The school definitely cost her more money but, the way that she's been able to train abroad is fantastic.

Glad he's ok.

As a diabetic this is my biggest fear. I've had my sugar go low many times but fortunately I've recognized it and have been in a position to get something in my system quickly to raise it.
