Why was she unable to avert the crippling drilling moratorium after Macondo?

And furthermore...what does it say about state of affairs of DC politics to 'brag' about the 'power' they hold on a committee in Wash DC?

Libs?....

They ALL do it. Plus they ALL use their connections to make their families MILLIONS. Doesn't make it right though.

I always love when idiots hold her up as some big O&G supporter, like any senator from Louisiana would be anti oil and gas, it's akin to saying support candidate XYZ over Hitler because candidate XYZ is anti-semitic, it's a moot point. A vote for her is a vote for Obama.

macondo was an event that obama had to jump on. it was too easy for him, and no one could stop that

however, I would like some clarification (details/specifics) as to what value ML has brought in terms of her time on the energy committee. I know there are plenty of things, I just frankly don't know what they are

You should rephrase: If Senator ML is so influential within the Democratic Party why was she unable to avert or ameliorate the permitorium?

In my view her views are first unpopular in her party. Secondly, it's unknowable, but I would have expected some type of "timeout" to have occurred regardless of the party running the exec branch. Not as long with an R, though.

So, if the republicans take the senate and Mary L manages to hold on to her seat, exactly what power will she have?

I know that this is an unlikely situation but if her party does not rule the senate, what power would she hold.

She won't hold her committee Chair in that scenario, it will go to a Republican. She'll remain on the committee, though.

The support she's getting from the O&G industry is based on a hedge bet...If the Rs can't take the senate and ML wins they at least have one advocate in a position of power in the controlling party on the committee. If the Republicans win - no worries, it'll be a friend regardless.

She'll be the ranking member.

It's a good word, and part of my regular lexicon. Is this not a word in common usage?

Lexicon. Ameliorate. Just tell folks to vote against Mary lol. Like the guy earlier said a politician who spoke out against O&G in Louisiana wouldn't be a politician for long. A new jobtitle would be iin their future.

ML can't poor piss out of a boot, without REED telling her how

From dealing with politics and business interest during the spill, to sending information to a client which was immediately forwarded to the WH - I can say that ML did not do very much.

We got lots of lip service, but that was it.

Same with permitting issues with USACE - all lip service and nothing happens. On the other hand, if Vitter calls the Usace they can't jump fast enough, even if it's to just give a response.

And why hasn't she been able to get Keystone pushed through when the State Department's own study said environmental impact (of building the pipeline) would be low?
