Do you not read your own quoted material?

I realize you almost never post a link to what you quote (in violation of copyright laws and TigerDroppings site rules), but that's not an excuse for you to not at least read what you quote.

I thought they had stated yesterday that the vote comes down to just people residing in StG

This is correct...

That's just to incorporate a new city, which was the primary objective all along. Creating a new school district no longer has anything to do (legally) with being a city and will require parish-wide and state-wide approval.

Now you're just making up stuff. Here is a long article discussing the AG's opinion. It says nothing about "cherry picking" any areas.

I stand corrected. I remember that coming up at some point and must have inadvertantly attributed it to the AG's opinion on annexing contiguous lands into a municipality.

Baton Rouge Magnet High School had the highest overall score at 130.1. Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School came in second with a score of 126.6. Sherwood Middle Academic Academy had the third highest score in EBRPSS with 121.9.

Awesome. And this is my experience. I'm especially happy for WHAM. A LOT of great teachers/parents over there-I miss that crowd.

Sherwood Middle has work to do. Or it could just be Pimp Jr, bringing down the scores...

Actually not laughing...

The report shows that the number of schools in EBR receiving an F doubled to 16

This is embarassing.

EBR has some great magnet schools, but it appears they are coming at the expense of leaving other schools behind.

Yes, because it's totally the school system's fault when kids and their parents don't give a flying flip about education.

And if the kids who do care get bussed out to a better school for them, then this board lights up bitching about busing kids out of their neighborhood.

What are the letter grades of the schools in the St. George area?

The three elementary schools closest to me are A, A, and B. And the middle school is a B.

The failing schools deep in ghettos with terrible demographics don't exactly represent the entire district.

I'm not putting fault completely on the school system, although they seem to take credit for sucesses and pass blame for failures.

This vote seems to be referendum by parents in StG that care and are tired of excuses and patchwork.

I don't pretend to think that they do. As it is being explained to me, the participants from the failing schools can enroll at the passing schools and bus themselves in. Do I have that right?

People aren't going to stop blaming politicians for the failures of the black community any time soon.

Let's see.. Central schools were good until they started bussing in poor black kids and then central schools sucked. They form a new school system and suddenly the schools are good again in year 1 before they even had a chance to change anything.

Yep, keep blaming politicians, teachers, unions, poverty, or whatever. Just don't blame the parents and the students because if you do that would be racist.

Just like being in the 1% came at the expense of the bottom 10% right?

This pie only has so many pieces, am I right?
I'll let my kids know that if they study less the kids at Melrose will start excelling.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, right?
The old Soviet logic I see, let's achieve equality by destroying achievement.

I agree it is parent involvement and students who care that make a school great. This is what made AP school great for many years, long before the boom.

I blame politicians/school boards for watering down good schools with transfers (M2N) and busing.

Not sure of what choice they have, but making the good suffer for the bad when it comes to education is sort of shitty.

And one of those elementary schools, if one is Parkview Elementary, was just named a National Blue Ribbon School two weeks ago. That's the highest academic honor a school can get.

And that's the honor most EBR people perceive only goes to Baton Rouge Magnet High School which wasn't nominated for the honor this year because John White put a policy in place that magnet schools should not be nominated for it.

He changed his mind about that policy about 6 days ago when he was flooded by calls and letters from irate BRMHS parents, among others.

The state will once again approve submitting magnet schools for the NBRS honor next year.

Woodlawn HS C no change
Woodlawn MS B (up from a C)
Woodlawn Elem B no change
Jefferson Terrace D no change
Shenandoah A no change
Cedarcrest B (up from a C)
Red Oaks C (up from a D)
Westminister D (down from a C)

Others? I think these are all in what would be SG, but there are some that SG would like to take, but I don't think they fall outside the BR City limits.
