Fall Speckled Trout run MIA in Venice/Port Sulphur thus far

The river won't be dropping again this year below 4 feet NOLA stage per NOAA's website and is in fact rising to above 6 feet until at least mid-November. Even in the areas where we are finding clean water in Venice the Specks just aren't there at all. All of the Venice guides we have spoken too are worried about next year's Speck fishery so they have started concentrated on other species.

It was with much regret that I moved our annual November Venice trip to points west not affected by the river. Venice will be fine, it's still one of, if not the best fishery in the U.S. and will continue to be.
The river is predicted to be close to 9 feet at NOLA around November 1st. That much freshwater will deter the trout from moving into the river for some time to come, possibly to the end of November.
I don't see it as a doom and gloom for Venice, just a change from the normal trout run in October/November. Not sure what predictor on NOAA's site you are using, but any prediction beyond 2/3 weeks is wildly inaccurate, including NOAA's. HIGHLY likely that it will drop below 4 feet at some point before Christmas, just WAY later than normal.... just be patient, Venice will be Venice.
My group didn't want to chage dates for the trip, so we just changed locations to avoid the slug of freshwater.

My dad's buddy is a guide down there and when he called him to ask about any tips, the guide said, "How's your golf game?"
I was down this weekend for a poor attempt at offshore fishing and the river water was 40-50 miles out on the west side. It's definitely gonna kill the fall speck bite..sucks.

Had friends down there over the weekend fishing a two day redfish tournament, they all put a smak down on FAT reds, but trout were not there, and I don't believe they will be until much later, if at all.

I fully expect Yellow Cotton to be there this year, the river likely not. However there will be some trout around but agreed it is looking like in the river won't happen this year. Hope that's wrong though not much like the November trout bite in the river.
