I understand wanting to save a timeout for a field goal when you are moving the ball at ease, but there is no field goal with a conversion there.

3rd down ended at 40 seconds, and we would have had less than 20 seconds left even if Meachem catches the ball (more PI than the Bush call)

Also, Graham completely halfed arse his route on that play.

Payton had a brain fart definetely needed a timeout at the 40 sec mark

First thing I said when it happened. Better to use the timeout there, and get your sh!t together, then use spikes after that. There was plenty of time to use spikes if you get first down.

My guess is a combination of our DL not being able to put consistent pressure on Brees in their hurry-up offense and trying to catch them in a miscommunication like they did a handful of times prior.

I am not sure if Brees has the arm strength any longer for effective spikes.

Should have definitely called that TO right away, but once we didn't call it and 6-7 seconds had already melted off, it was the right decision to just run the play.

Again, I think Brees is a bit overrated in regards to in-game smartness. That's a situation where I think a Peyton Manning doesn't even wait for sideline guidance, he's turning around to the back judge and calling timeout immediately after the play is over.
