After all, we got the stinking tiger for our own entertainment. That's the only reason he sits on campus. Might as well get him to the games.

How do you think all of those donors that gave money to Mike's Habitat feel about him not being on the sidelines before the games?

You could bitch about literally anything. I'm actually kind of impressed. And you know you can see Mike the other 358 days of the year when there isn't a football game, right?

Why does LSUsports.net proclaim this as some kind of tradition when Mike VI hasn't been to a single game this year?

quote:

Mike's ride through Tiger Stadium before home games in a travel trailer topped by the LSU cheerleaders is a school tradition. Before entering the stadium, his cage on wheels is parked next to the opponent's lockerroom in the southeast end of the stadium. Opposing players must make their way past Mike's cage to reach their locker room.

Tradition dictates that for every growl elicited by Mike before a football game, the Tigers will score a touchdown that night. For many years, Mike was prompted to roar by pounding on the cage. Objections of cruel punishment brought about the use of recorded growls to play to the crowd before the games. That practice was discontinued shortly afterward and, today, Mike participates in the pregame tradition without provocation.

Hey look, CBS sports thinks it's one of the greatest traditions in college sports.

Johnny Football is coming to Death Valley, where one of college football's most imposing traditions awaits the SEC's most exciting player.

Because it is a tradition. And one that Mike VI doesn't seem to take a shine to. He's outside in his habitat literally every day, but by all means keep pumping out the faux outrage over a stubborn cat if it makes you happy.

What tradition, I haven't seen him inside the stadium one time this year.

Shouldn't really be his choice. Does he choose to stay in his tiger habitat instead of roaming free in the jungle with other tigers? I guess he really doesn't have a choice.

Why be so hypocritical? If we are cold-hearted enough to keep him as a pet, we might as well get him to the stadium.

You're really equating keeping him in a state of the art multi-million dollar habitat with some of the best veterinary care possible to forcing him into a travel cage and wheeling him around the stadium for your amusement? Really? For one, he's been in some form of captivity for his whole life, and this is exponentially better than what he'd get at a standard zoo. And I bet you're a real expert on what life is like for wild tigers too, huh?

Bottom line:

1. Vet school takes care of Mike;

2. Vet School does not want Mike at game; and

3. Mike is not going to game.

This is not correct.

Has the vet school forbade Mike to go?

No ... they leave it to him. They forbid forcing, coercing, or tricking him into his cage.

And I applaud their stance.

More like a lazitiger. They're the worst. At least positigers and negatigers stand for something. "Make Mike the Tiger stand right up and roar?" HA!

Yes, they sat down with Mike lawers and worked it out. It is not fair to trick a cat. Of course if we had a dog mascot, we could just rattle the car keys and he would be jumping up and down to get into the trailer.

All I am saying is if the point of having a Tiger is for it to be our mascot, get one that wants to go to the games. This way we won't have to force or coerce (steak!) or trick (cat nip?) him into the trailer. I am sure once he figured out he was tricked, it would crush his self- esteem.

Sorry, I couldn't imagine another reason why they would forbid coercing or tricking him into the trailer.

I'm not sure I understand how it would be cruel to coerce or trick him. Unless we were going to get him in the cage and then kill him.

I agree with you about the real Mike being any influence on my game day experience. A tiger in a cage doesn't influence the outcome of a game one bit. My neighbor played for Bama about thirty-four years ago. He said that when his team played in TS, before they would run out they would tease the tiger in the cage that was parked on the side where his team ran out. He said players would squirt the tigers with their water bottles, scream at the tiger to get him pissed, and spit at the cage. The coaches had to tell the players to stop teasing the cat. Yeah, Mike really scared the crap out of the opposing players.

This is a bulllshit answer and position. Anyone who thinks like this must be a Vegan because there are a billion or two chickens and cows that are tricked and manipulated to their untimely death and to our great benefit. So don't give me that self-righteous BS. We are animals too. We are forced, coerced, tricked, etc every day. There aint a damn thing wrong with putting him on parade six times a year.

I don't support cattle proddin him but there is nothing cruel about throwing a zebra arse in the trailer and closing the door behind him

The folks who manage him need to be replaced.

There needs to be an I Team Investigation on what really goes on, and why Mike won't get in the trailer.

I agree with you somewhat, but apparently wild tigers behave differently than domesticated cats or dogs do. They are smart and know when things are different and dont react well to it.

Also, a few years ago they left mike on the field when the pre-game fireworks were going off, which really spooked him and still has a negative effect on his loading into the trailer.
