Why don't more teams do a hail mary to end the first half?

Receivers can catch damn near anything these days. I guess the best answer is to not risk the interception, but to me it seems there is a higher chance of one of your receivers catching a TD or the other team getting a touchback than one of their guys taking it back 100 yards. I dunno, I am not a coach.

Players' union and stats

It's the same reason basketball players shoot last second half court shots right after the buzzer.

The biggest incentive in today's rules is to just chuck it up and try and draw a PI penalty. They call them all the time and it's spot of the foul, and the half cant end on a penalty, so why not.

Not many refs are gonna call a PI on a tossup at the end of the half.

Basketball players take half court shots after the buzzer sounds at the half because they don't want it to count against their stats.

Maybe in the NBA I doubt that's true in any other level of basketball. Even then, I'm still skeptical.

Kevin Durant has admitted to doing it.

Most teams do if they are within 55 yards. Throwing a hail mary from your own 20 has more possibility for bad outcomes than good. It's not the pick 6 risk, it's the sack/fumble risk that's scarier.
