Blockbuster opened its first store. 29 years later, there are none...I miss it.
What do you miss that is gone?
Saturday morning cartoons on network television ended a couple weekends ago...I miss that, too!

It was an obsolete business model selling an obsolete medium in a world where instantaneous viewing is the future

Sorry for not being progressive enough for you...

By the way, I actually enjoy real life interactions. The internet is great in many ways, but it cannot replace human interaction and real life experience.
I miss walking through the stores with (whomever) to find a cult classic or to browse the new releases. I miss running into people I know. I miss talking face to face with strangers about our thoughts on a particular film. Hell, I miss the "Be Kind; Rewind" stickers and reminders from the clerk.

I like real life interactions as well. But I don't miss paying 5-6$ for a movie and having to pay late fees and hoping they had it in stock and hoping it wasn't too damaged to play. I pay 8$ a month and can browse with whoever I want.
I think it's an improvement.

It might be an improvement, but you are ignoring the huge improvement the Blockbuster was to the alternative at the time. I enjoyed going to Blockbuster as a kid. It was exciting. Just because it is obsolete now doesn't mean it didn't have value.

Thank you for actually understanding the purpose of this thread. I miss most of that, too!
I will add the following: I miss going to the theater and not seeing TV commercials.

I too miss arcades, but the luckily there is a place by me called Silverball. It's an actual arcade with a big focus on old pinball machines. They have a placard on each machine with the history of it. Old video games as well, old shooting games.
No quarters needed, pay one price at the door and play as long as you want

That sounds incredible. Where is this? How much is the cost at the door?

I understand the nostalgia. We had a video store too. I can remember renting Nintendo games from it.

I was once on the phone with Blockbuster Video, which is a very old-fashioned sentence. That’s like when your Gram would be like, “We’d all go play jacks by the soda fountain.” And you’re like, “Nobody knows what you’re talking about, you idiot.” -John Mulaney
I have some good memories of Blockbuster though. Remember those unlimited summer passes right when they got DVDs? That was fun. I liked Major Video too.
