Would you keep the ACA in exchange for abolishing SS

If we were to abolish social security and leave it to the individual to manage retirement accounts, and use the money to guarantee health insurance for all regardless of pre existing conditions. Assume ACA is reformed to where there is no penalty for not having insurance. The extra money from SS is used to cover costs of heavy subsidies so the poor can have healthcare, especially those with conditions that are costly to treat.

Why not just let abolish SS and set up a program where poor people can buy into health insurance while leaving the rest of America the hell out of it?

So all SS?

If we get rid of SS, do we also get rid of the SS taxes as well?

If so, where is the money coming from to pay for the (not so)ACA?

SS cannot just be abolished. It must be phased out. Let's say you just abolished it tomorrow. That means a 64 year old man who has paid 100K into SS taxes to support other people gets exactly ZERO.

Neither will ever be done away with...ever. If we had leaders in Congress who were responsible, we could modify and improve both programs.

Hell no. I'd support the reverse though.

Anyone under 40 who thinks they will get a dime of SS money in retirement is a fool.

I have been contemplating the opportunity of opting out of SS for quite a while now. I just started my 3 yr window to opt out.

the alternative is that a 31 year old like SFP will pay 100k over the next 34 years and get 0 in the end

Yeah, but the deal in the OP is trading one problem for another. You have to grossly overpay for health insurance for the next 30 years. And with abolishing SS you also lose everything you paid into that.
