Argument that LSU is pricing out the true/die hard fans out of Tiger Stadium
Posted by BamaHater on 10/16/14 at 7:15 pm1125
I'm sick and tired of hearing this excuse. 1st what exactly constitutes a true fan/die hard anyways? What many mean to say is that the tickets my family has since 1952 that we got cheap for many years has gone up in price and it's not far since i've had them over 60 years. I can't afford them now Increases in price of season tickets seems bad now because for many years LSU had cheap tickets and never increased prices. Historically for a major program we have had really cheap tickets. With the evolution of College Football, we realized we needed to keep up and with that included updated facilities and constituted ticket increases. If we would have done gradual increases we would not have had to do drastic increases. We is finally catching up to other major programs and what they charge for tickets. I know A&M, Texas and other Power 5 teams charge way more for tickets.
I Guess to appease the fan base we need to charge $20 for tickets and schedule teams like Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon at home.

Think it was 12 bucks for a Student ticket when I was in school, what's it cost now? Just curious

LSU's face value is still comparable or less than a lot of SEC schools. People who complain need to realize that without increased ticket prices and increasing TAF fees that we would fall behind the arms race that has been going on in college football. If our fans want nice facilities to attract the best football players, then they're going to have to pay for it

I'd argue that price is not the issue so much as availability. Regular non-season ticket holders used to be able to call when tickets went on sale. You'd wait on hold, then somebody would pick up and take your ticket order. It was all about patience and determination.
Now, tickets to the Alabama game are not available to non-season ticket holders except for by third party sales, which is triple face, or more.
Lots of die hard fans don't live in Baton Rouge and can only make one or two games a year at best. Being a season ticket holder is not an option. So, we have to go on being happy buying east upper tickets to the ULM game

Sorry, it's true.
You could buy season tix w/no "donation" and park for free well into the late 80s/early 90s. Billy Bob and Tammy Sue could buy them, and have enough left over to come in, liquor up all day, and then scream for the Tigers until all zeroes.
Oh, and I could get an entire season. Of student tickets for $12 ($2 per game)

higher ticket demand = higher scarcity
that's what happens when you've had the success we have

How much have the ticket prices risen relative to everything else? Are they more, less or the same?

I'm more concerned about the increasing percentage of corporate "golf clapper" types in Tiger Stadium...
and I'd like to find a way to pack the students in like sardines again...it's not possible as things around campus to put an addition to the North End Zone, but it might be possible to add a walkway around the top of North Stadium that would provide some more SRO seating and an escape route that the fire marshals can live with...

Agreed. It's a fact, no doubt. It is unfortunate though. Greater team success leads to less passion in the seats, as a whole. There's nothing to do about it except hunt for a higher paying job, or hope upon hope that a friend or relative will have an extra ticket.

For me it's not so much the increased prices, but the attitude. LSU could care less if the average fans keep their tix. They'd happily sell them to the next corporation without any consideration as to why those fans are giving them up. More corporate involvement may mean more money, but the culture of game day outside and inside the stadium will change, IMO.
