I think it's a given that heavy metal has some of the most dynamic singers in music. Even if you hate the genre, it's hard to deny the talent of guys like Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, etc.

But which non-metal vocalists have the pipes to go toe-to-toe with these metal gods?

I realize that a number of hard rock singers can easily be classified as 'metal vocalists' depending on how you interpret their band's sound (e.g. Deep Purple), but I also think it's typically easy to identify a singer as being predominantly rock or hard rock rather than metal.

These singers don't necessarily have the most well-trained chops, but their vocals can shatter glass and blow out your stereo speakers when turned to 11.

Here are some of my nominees just to get the ball rolling:

Ian Gillian
Brian Johnson
Roger Daltrey
David Coverdale (pre-Whitesnake)

I thought about mentioning Plant, but I can't help but remember Bon Scott's remark about the Led Zeppelin singer. He said something to the effect of Plant sounding like a 12-year-old girl.

I'm not denying Plant's talent as a singer, but I certainly don't view him as powerful compared to other rock singers.

Great choice. The vocals on Louder Than Love and Temple of the Dog are top-notch.

Plant doesn't have "their vocals can shatter glass and blow out your stereo speakers when turned to 11" type power.

Some of you act like LZ members are your brothers the way you defend them.

You're going to take the opinion of a guy who was in one of the shittiest rock n roll bands of all time?

Mike Patton.

Some of his music can probably be classified as metal or close to metal, but he has a large diverse amount of projects out there.

You being one of them if you think AC/DC is worth a shite...They are hands down the most simplest, least talented, super overrated bands ever.

I don't even like Zeppelin and will pick them 100/100 as a better band than ACDC ever was
