How long did it take before you actually knew what was going on and were an actual benefit to your company?

I'm sure this will get some great replies but that's okay

Attach yourself to the revenue stream.

Understand how the company makes money and be an integral part of that.

In law it's pretty easy. Find a rainmaker partner who doesn't have time to litigate. Get in the middle of his biggest cases. Done, invaluable.

The position that I am in now started October 1, 2014. I have been with the company since April, but I was hired for this position because they knew that the new program would be starting soon. I am now the only person in the company with any experience at my job. If I leave I will have to train the new person. IMO, that gives me a bit of leverage. I already got a nice raise and I’m moving into my new office tomorrow.

When I put a Please Do Not Disturb sign on my office door and took the afternoon off to see a Cubs game.

I've been pretty worthless in all of the jobs I've had, so I have no idea.
