A la carte TV and the future

So with HBO announcing you will no longer need a cable or satellite subscription and CBS offering streaming service today at $5.99 a month what do you imagine as the future of TV?
ESPN and HBO are big enough to offer a streaming service with no repercussion from providers. But what will really be hurt in this idea of streaming TV are the small channels.

Whats going to happen is the telecom companies are going to throttle the shite out of your data or make you pay $100/month for internet access.
This debate is so frustrating. The antiquated cable model has been fought for tooth and nail by the big providers, and they'll do anything to keep those profits up.

Pretty much. Careful what you wish for in this scenario because the telecom companies have too much at stake to not keep their hands in your pocket.
In the end, if it comes to the a la carte streaming model, you'll be paying about the same, or even more, than you are now once you factor in the internet fees and whichever monthly streaming service you subscribe to.

I find myself downloading more CBS shows than any other network..(I'm not going to pay to stream it though)

Not only that, but you can kiss smaller networks/channels goodbye. I know people say "I only need ____ and ____" but people still do watch other things. And they damn sure would realize what they missed when the smaller channels are gone.
Channels like ESPN support the smaller channels and keep them around. As much as a la carte cable intrigues me, I feel like the overall product (call it "TV watching" or whatever) wouldn't be as good.
The caveat to that is if the smaller people focused their content towards the internet, which would still allow you to watch their programming, even if it's on a smaller scale.

They're just going to do what Cox on demand does now.
Stream them whenever you want with commercials and without the ability to fast-forward
