It prepares players for the next level obviously much better. QBs take hand offs from under center, and make reads similar to the reads they would make in a pro offense. RBs have similar looks on running plays as in a pro offense. I could go on and on at every position. This is a great benefit in recruiting. Look at Tre Mason for example. I was watching Monday night football and Mike and John were saying that he has not been able to adjust to the pro game as quickly because he comes from a spread offense. Tre got a couple of touches and is obviously the most explosive RB on that team and he cant even get on the field. Not to many teams run it anymore and this is to LSUs benefit in recruiting. I would pitch this all day to recruits! Last years recruiting class was amazing and more amazing recruiting classes will follow.

Do you watch the NFL? No team is doing what we do. Most of them are in the shotgun

TigerBlood is correct. Everything has went great for LSU except the state stopped developing SEC QB's. LSU has kept up with Bama until the NFL departures, even with them having the better QB play the entire time. Miles adjusted and continued to bring in guys who could graduate and still compete for SEC titles every year. Even our receivers are adjusting better to the NFL game, without near as many catches, as others.
Its hard to believe that an entire state can be in this big of a drought on developing its high school kids to be QB's.

Doesn't take much to run a spread offense, and most of the best athletes are at QB in LA...

Running plays from the gun does not make you a spread offense team. Every team in the NFL runs plays from the gun and under center.

The number one program in Louisiana is John Curtis. They run the veer, they don't need a college level QB. Hence they don't produce them.

Other teams run spread or some antiquated run offense. They put an athlete at QB who doesn't need a college arm or decision making.

Only team I can think of that has produced a ton of college QBs is Evangel. And Isidore Newman with the Mannings but that could have been any team.

I wasn't disagreeing lol. They are obviously having tremendous success. I was pointing out that a pro-style can work. Some believe a spread is the only answer.

Miles has recruited every position superbly except QB. See Bama as well on this.
LSU was not only pro style but it was built to beat Alabama and vice versa. Others have caught up and now the the team with the best QB has the advantage, if other units are competitive. The SEC has become a mini NFL and u will need a dominating defense or a very good QB to win it all.

LSU recognized the La trend and went hard after Mettenberger, theyve been looking coast to coast since and thus Cam Cameron was hired. U can blame Miles for not seeing the trend sooner, but the Perriloux disaster cut deep at the wrong time. Crap happens, its what u do about it, that counts.

Do YOU watch the NFL? Or, do you know what the spread offense is (and what it is not)? NFL offenses have more in common with LSU's (excepting production maybe ) than with any spread offense.

LSU was in the shotgun plenty with Mett. We don't have a QB like that right now.

Hell, we even had plays where we rolled Jeremy Hill out of the backfield and did the Sean Payton 5 wide, in the Red Zone

Pro style doesn't mean that you don't use shotgun

So even though our offensive scheme is a liability, handicap, and outdated, its good because it might be a good recruiting pitch?

Jeez.

I would say the only way our offensive style is beneficial is that, if we get first downs, a big if, we can control the clock. This keeps our defense off the field and rested.

Unfortunately we are so predictable, there are a lot of three and outs.

This has been changing with the mobile QBs coming from spread systems in college

Do you remember last season?

We had the 2nd highest 3rd down % in 10+ years, second only to the Andrew Luck at Stanford who also ran a pro style offense.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a pro style offense. Hell, we've run a fair share of spread formations this year. We've had great success on the ground under Les Miles running his guys behind a fullback. You just need a good QB, same with the spread

There is something wrong when you can't trust your QB

Seriously ? An offense that had a future NFL starting qb, two excellent wide receivers, and a nfl starting caliber three down running back?

Well guys, one good season out of ten aint bad.

You are talking about two quarterbacks that are NFL caliber built for those types of offenses.

Not two spread offense guys that you recruited.

Yes, seriously

Mett is obviously a good player and has a shot in the NFL. To say he's a future starting QB is pretty ridiculous at this point. He was a 6th round pick who is currently 3rd on the Titans depth chart.

You do realize that we ran spread formations with Mett right?

You don't need receivers for a spread offense? We've got receivers.

We have running backs too. We continuously put running backs in the NFL. We might have our best one ever.

Do you honestly believe we've only had 1 good offensive season out of the last 10?

Are you confusing the spread with the spread option?

If anything, you need a better QB to throw out of a spread passing attack.
