Earlier this week when New Orleans Pelicans swingman Tyreke Evans met with the media, he was businesslike during his short question-and-answer period.

But once talk of more creativity to coach Monty Williams' system came about, Evans let go a bright gap-tooth smile.

...Williams is implementing some new movements in his offense that are expected to free up his explosive playmakers.

Some of the new designs were on display in Tuesday night's 117-98 victory against the Houston Rockets. But most of it will come later when Evans returns to the court and once the regular season begins.

...[Ryno quote]"Obviously we have so many guys who can do so many different things, I think coach is giving us more freedom to just play. A big change has been our quick offense, just getting into something right after a miss. Guys have a lot of freedom to make plays. A lot of that is based on guys like Tyreke, a guy who can handle the ball really well so we want to give it to him on the break. That's where we can be really dangerous."

I'll believe it when I see it consistently, and Monty doesn't start to panic and tighten up.

Hopefully Tyreke is more comfortable passing on the break this year. It was kind of frustrating last year when he'd seemingly ignore a wide open AD or Aminu on breaks.

One thing I'll miss about Aminu is his ability to run a break. For all of his issues, the guy was solid in the open court and seemed to have pretty good vision.

I am still imagining a time when the lineup on the floor is:
Tyreke
Jrue
Jimmer
Anderson
Davis

Defenses would just shite their pants. Wide open threes for days or open space for a Tyreke drive. Obviously defense will be an issue even with Davis and Jrue on the floor in that lineup, but a man can dream.

Too bad he had issues with finishing.

He was actually pretty solid finishing on the break. Doesn't make him a better shooter, but he was surprisingly good leading the charge on breaks.

Aminu sucked at finishing. Especially if he had to dribble.

You people can say this all you want, but it was simply not true in space on the break. He was probably our best player running the break last year. Tyreke could have been, but he had a bad habit of putting his head down and ignoring his teammates.

Great read from Schumann on ball movement and player movement. He uses tracking camera data to make his point

LINK

quote:

The Kings and Pelicans each ranked in the top five in player movement, but in the bottom five in ball movement. New Orleans ranked third in the league in drives, but was the team most likely to shoot on those drives.

On average, about 65 percent of drives would result in a drawn foul or a shot by the driver.Tyreke Evans (70 percent), Eric Gordon (79 percent) and Austin Rivers (82 percent) were all guys who drove a lot, but not for the purpose of finding an open teammate.

quote:

There is no correlation between ball movement and offensive efficiency. Three top-10 offenses — Oklahoma City, Phoenix and Toronto — ranked in the bottom 10 in ball movement (passes per minute in half-court possessions). And fivebottom-10 offenses — Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Utah, Charlotte and the Lakers — ranked in the top 10.

quote:

The same goes with player movement. As noted above, the Clippers ranked 22nd in player movement (team distance per minute in half-court possessions), and they had the No. 1 offense in the league.

agreed

aminu was an excellent finisher, and this team will miss greatly his speed, athleticism, rebounding and defensive energy.

Many posters here create false dichotomies with players. Either you are awesome or you suck at everythin . Aminu has some serious flaws, but finishing the break is absolutely not one of them.
