ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos, with a Hall of Fame quarterback calling the shots as the team's top football executive and a future Hall of Famer behind center in Peyton Manning, are the new America's Team.
quote:

The Broncos replaced the Dallas Cowboys, who had finished in The Harris Poll's top spot for each of the previous six years as the "favorite team" of adults who follow professional football. The New York Giants finished as the No. 2 team with the Green Bay Packers at No. 3, the Cowboys at No. 4 and Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 5.

Collectively, Americans are borderline retarded.

I hope that makes you feel better.

I lived in NYC for a few months, couldn't find a Jets fan. Everyone liked the Giants.

Same, which is weird considering I have met a large variety being that I live in Alabama.

That's according to The Harris Poll, which surveyed 2,543 adults (1,275 of whom said they followed professional football). The nationwide poll was taken from Sept. 10-17.

I've met hundreds and have a couple that are friends on FB. They have great fans, travel almost as well at Steeler fans.

You obviously didn't go to any strip clubs, Italian restaurants and pawn shops.

meh, a ton of bandwaggoners in this country. Once Manning retires and they go back to being a middle of the road team, they'll drop off from these rankings real quick. The cowboys and steelers, IMO, are still the most popular franchises.

We are talking about a country that will drive 10 miles out of their way and stand in line for 2 hours at a Walmart to save 19 cents on a hammer.

Steeler fans don't actual travel from Pittsburgh to games across the county. They won 4 superbowls in the 70's, got a great following, then the mills closed around the area so many of the families moved all over the country and wa la Steeler fans everywhere.

You could definitely notice this from looking at the poll history.

Most likely. The Colts were ranked as high as 2nd overall and consistently in the top 6 while Manning was there. He leaves, then two years later they're ranked 26th overall.

So the year after teams win Super Bowls, they jump into the top 10?
Or whatever team Manning plays for?

Surprising

Except for the usual suspects that are always in the Top 10 like the Packers, Steelers, Cowboys.

America loves a winner.

Yep. Same reason that everyone in their 30s or 50s grew up a Cowboys fan. I'd never met a Seahawks fan until 2 years ago, now you can't walk down the street anywhere in the country without bumping into someone in a Marshawn Lynch or Russell Wilson jersey.
