Listening to a lot of "Americana" lately. How does the MB rank these bands? Maybe J Roddy a little harder than the others.

Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, big league ball player, the toughest boxer. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war, because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.

1. Old 97s
Fight Songs may be the most underrated album of all time.

Yea, ive listened to it and I feel like they dialed it in. Songs about whiskey, trucks etc. Prob need to give it a harder listen as I really like the old stuff but J Roddy seems fresher to me.
James McMurtry has a new album in Feb. Pretty excited about it.
Trying to see the glamour around shakey graves

Old 97s and James McMurty are both great. But they both peaked 15 years ago.

I'm an Old 97s fan, back to my time in Austin, also like Rhett's solo discs.

When they started releasing that stuff is when I gave up on them. And Rhett solo is unlistenable and even worse live IMO.
