I've hunted SW pass a few times, but looking for something closer to cypress cove or venice marina. I spoke with a guy that told me that a lot of people down there hunt oil company land which they are trespassing, perhaps b/c they don't know nor give a damn. True? Is the wagon wheel area fair game?

I'm not looking to run too far past the jump since I only have a 16ft mudboat and the river would swallow me.

Any info is appreciated. I'm not looking for anyone to give up hunting spots, just somewhere to shoot a few birds w/out mother-shipping.

I have similar questions. I've fished Venice for a long time but want to do a duck hunt there this winter, and don't really know the rules of the road. I will probably book a trip with a guide and would love recommendations on a good duck hunting guide.

Tons of public land down there. Wagon Wheel has some public but also has lots of private have to know where you are at all times there and IMO the hunting is not what it once was 5-10 years ago there.

Most people with small duck boats hunt Baptiste Collette, some private land there but most is public. Easy run straight across the river and good hunting where I would go with a duck boat.

Guides well it's illegal to guide on most of the public land down there so learning the rules of the road with a guide will be challenging and be legal. As far as hunting look over the public land and beware of Fog, sandbars and cuts that look open but have rocks in the front of them and have at it.

It's good hunting but hard hunting down there, launch boat, run 10 or more miles, launch pirogue blind up, set decoys etc, it's not easy hunting but often worth it.

BigL- If you guys have a decent boat(with radar) and are willing to brave the elements, I'd suggest camping out @ the wildlife station grounds down river. If you don't mind lugging a couple piroges, there are tons of places to put in on the WMA's with decent paddle access. We used to camp out down there every year and slay birds. I'd only suggest to seasoned MF'ers who could dig in if the weather gets ripe.

I've got a 21 bay boat and the camping sounds pretty fun actually. I don't own any pirogue blinds but maybe I could build one using fishfighters design.

need radar.

There's no need for a blind really, the roseau canes get pretty high or ya'll could just find some grass and flip the piroge over for seating, cut cane for cover and crack a beer. keep it simple.

Baptiste Collette

I'm assuming the leased land is fiercely signed? I'm going to go down this weekend and take a look. My buddy told me that Baptiste Collette would probably be the best option, so thanks for the input.
