My little boy just turned 3 and I've been itching to get him his first gun. Ole Lady says he's to young but I say he's old enough for a .22 pellet gun at least. What says the OB?

Whoa. Way too young for something that could potentially send someone to the hospital.

Tigerdeacon Jr. is about to be 5 and no way is he ready for his first gun yet.

He still tries to shoot me in the head with his nerf guns.

Frick I wouldn't even give a 3 yr old a sharp pair of scissors.

lol. No, he is fully self dependent and it would obviously be under supervised conditions (ie, I load it, pump it, hold it and let him pull the trigger.

Until they can perform all functions they don't need a gun.

Isn't that what 99% of these "which gun for my child" threads are about?

Yep, sounds ready for a gun.

Just buy them everything you want, and convince the wife that guns may be restricted in the future, and you need to get them now. Of course, don't give em to the kid now, but they can always inherit them...and use them when they are older.

Get him a Red Ryder "Young Buck"

And let him know he can only shoot it with you. My 6 year old still uses his to plink at the camp, taught him how to safely handle it at a young age and it stuck. Reinforce safety is to stay on until about to pull the trigger and goes back on safety immediately after. And always know where the barrel is pointed.

partially but at least in most cases the child has a bit of maturity and understanding to them. A 3 yr old is too young to comprehend basic safety and true severity of what's going on.

Teach him basic firearm safety with one of these.
My 5 yr. old does well with his. It stays locked in the gun cabinet unless I'm home with him.
His muzzle discipline and trigger discipline are superb.

Yea. He pimps out his mother and sister...Let me rephrase it. He is as self dependent as a 3 year old can be and you are right. Part of it is that use any excuse I can to add to the collection!
