Turkey on Monday denied any deal with the United States on use of its bases for operations against ISIS, according to reports — contradicting National Security Adviser Susan Rice, who said Ankara had “made a commitment” over the issue.

Amateur hour.

Turkey hates the Kurds. If they knew ISIS would leave them the frick alone, they'd let the Kurds be slaughtered. As it is (and as is apparent), they are very reluctant to interfere.

I've worked in Turkey and I found the Turks to be very two-faced, almost untrustworthy to deal with. It's a very strange culture when it comes to keeping a commitment.

I've worked extensively with the Chinese, they are exactly the same way.

The damn Chinese will climb a tree to tell a lie when they could tell the truth standing on the ground.

i work a lot with indians, the trick is you have to be able to tell the difference between their yeses. its nuanced but it can be done.

I have also found the turks to be a tad all over the place, not really the turks but everyone from that region seems to be ok lying to your face.

I work a lot in China and India...and always thought this terrible joke summed it up..

When dealing with Americans, everything is above the table..

When dealing with the Chinese, everything is done under the table..

When dealing with the Indians, they have taken the table..

Which begs the question; who would you trust more to make a firm commitment; a Turk or someone in the Obama administration?

Various "official" sources list the Kurds anywhere between 15-20% of Turkey's population, about the same as in Iraq.
