I am flying in and staying for only Thursday night. I have a morning meeting at MD Anderson so was trying to figure out the best place I should stay around that area. I will be flying into Bush and out of Hobby.

Hotels that are walkable to restaurants and other things of interest would be great. I normally sit at the bar and watch football etc. since I am alone.

Any suggestions?

I am flying in from Atlanta. If I wait for a direct flight (or even connecting flights) to Hobby, it gets in around 9. Flying into Bush I will get in at 6.

Flying out of airports is always the bigger pain, hence I went with Hobby.

Hotel Zaza for the hotel. Thursday is a good night to go out in midtown, not far from there. What kind of food do you like? I always recommend Americas, Underbelly, the Original Ninfas, and Niko Nikos.

Americas is a personal favorite

Stay at La Colombre D'or

Walk to uchi, or Hugo's for food. Walk to hay merchant, anvil and stones throw for drinks.

We go there once a year for work/training and stay in the Doubletree either downtown or by the airport. Shula's is a nice place to grab a steak and we usually try to see a game at Minute Maid because it's a really nice park. Too late in the year for that though. There's a lot of nice night life over by the ball park as well but not too far from there is also a pretty big ghetto. Not sure about crime in that area but you do see a lot of suspect females at 2-3am in the area pushing baby strollers.

OK, lay out what I should do. I can change my ticket but I will be getting in at 9:00 if I want to fly into Hobby. I have heard bad things about Bush international, but if I am flying in and getting in a rental, would it be that bad to be driving through downtown at 6:30?

No, you will be fine driving in from Bush, its going to the airport around that time that is a nightmare.

I think flying into IAH and out from Hobby is a good plan in your situation.

100% agree although you're not really all that close to the city if that's what he's looking for.

I am only looking for a good place that is somewhat close to MD Anderson (so I don't have to go far in the morning). A place that is walkable to restaurants etc. I don't know enough about Houston to know the good areas.

When driving in from Bush, either take the Hardy Toll Road or 59...I45 heading in to town is a shite show from 6AM-10AM.

Hotel ZaZa is the best hotel in the area. There are several others in the medical center that are decent, but I've never stayed there, nor do I know anyone that has stayed there.

As far as things to do. Go eat/bar hop in Montrose or Rice Village. Both are really quick cab or uber rides away from the medical center/Zaza.

You can always stay downtown as well. It's not far from the medical center and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area. I would suggest Magnolia or Hotel Icon.

The hotel I told you may be on the high end. Just look around that area for another hotel. Food and drinks are all over the place, but that area is a good one.
