Recently watched the second one. Nothing earth shattering, and not really sure what it is about them, but they are two really enjoyable movies. Just seem to have a different feel to them than other comic book/super hero movies. I don't remember the reception here to them. What does everyone think?

decent action films. not much else to it. it was one of the biggest pirated movies out there so the studio wont be making the third one.
its a 3 part comic so there was going to be a 3rd movie. but not enough sales due to pirating. kind of shitty of the fans.

I like both and would like to see a third, although I think we were only so lucky to get the second one.

1st one was great. Truly a pleasant surprise
Watched a half hour of the sequel and it looked like shite

The 2nd wasn't nearly as good but Mother Russia is one of the greatest characters ever.

The second one didn't make money because the trailer was awful.

I've never heard "pleasant" used to describe Kick arse.

“Kick-arse 2 was one of the number-one pirated movies of the year, but that doesn’t help us because we need box office figures. We need to prove to the distributors that we can make money from a third and a fourth movie—but because it didn’t do so well, we can’t make another one. If you want more than one movie, everyone has to go and see movies at the cinema. It’s all about the numbers in the theater.”

I had no interest in the first one because of the trailer. Thought it looked horribly cheesy. Got good reviews so I gave it a chance and enjoyed the hell out of it.
Second one was a letdown (didn't they have a different director?) but I still enjoyed it a lot

Link? I read a while back they were already working on the script before either of the actors got too much older.

The first was a surprise. Moretz and Cage picked the movie up and ran across the finish line with it.
The second was... well... it was there. Chloe Moretz was still a very good young actress but the shock value of her character was done. The split narrative between her story and the Aaron Taylor-Johnson story was even more uneven this time around.
It had some good moments but blaming its failure on box office piracy is a cop out. It just didn't have the oomph the first movie had. It wasn't, however, a bad movie. But I think the studio had been banking on it being a bigger movie then it turned out to be.
