They would have a much tougher time trading him after this season since his cap number jumps to $4,000,000 in 2015 and 4,500,000 in 2016.

The Eagles are going to go through the same type of thing with wanting to restructure and/or give a pay cut to the RB position. Next season the Eagles are scheduled to put $16,000,000 into the RB position.

Because Sean Payton knew Sproles was going to injure his knee?

Exactly and it came down to Sproles or PT.

You take the complete back, that barring any injury to your other two on the roster, can handle significant reps in pass protection, running, and receiving.

To say the least.

It is, ironic that Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins are playing so well. Or seem to be from the little I've seen.

The positions coaches we lost:
OL
WR
DB

Arguably some of the weakest play on our team.

Last year of his contract and were seeing a decline in production and wanted to get something for him apparently. Cadet was supposed to replace him. It all makes sense but when you add that to our Offensive lineman that we lost, the offense just doesn't look right.

they're not, but this offense hasn't been the same when we don't have a back who is a big time mismatch on linebackers. pierre is killing it in the screen game thus far, and ingram is a beast running the ball, but we don't have anyone who can leave the backfield and move the chains like a WR.

We have the highest 3rd down % in the NFL.

PT has 18 first downs on the year so far. He has 11 through the air, which puts him on pace for around 35 on the year. Sproles had 24 through the air last season, 29 in 2012, and 35 in 2011.

Plus he can actually run the ball too

it would be damn impressive to be 2nd in total offense by a yard without being able to move the chains

...Pierre and Cooks are doing fine with that production

Issue are these extended droughts of not being able to move the chain at all after moving it methodically for 2-3 straight drives.

That an the REALLY untimely turnovers that make you go wtf.

Yep. Bad drops, penalties, protection errors, etc. have killed us.

Plus abandoning the run takes away from consistency

$6m Cap Space that only cost us $300K to cut him. He wanted money we didn't have to give him. He was less than stellar last year. Hes now in an offense that gives him touches he would have never gotten here.

The real question should be "Why weren't Jenkins and Harper performing that way here?"

Too comfortable? Nothing to prove? Either way, the Saints made the right choice.

If they haven't produced here in the way we needed for the last 8 (harper) and 5 (jenkins) years, they were never going to produce.
