I got an invite to upgrade My AMEX Gold premier rewards card to Platinum. The annual fee goes from 175 to 450.

I travel several times a month, so the free skylounge access would be great. Other than that perk, are there other benefits to justify the additional annual fee?

The $200 airline ecerts that come with the card effectively bring the annual fee down to $250. Precheck/global entry is worth another $85-100.

What sign up bonus did they offer you?

i think if you travel a lot its a no brainer, amex platinum is meant for people that spend a lot of time at airports. you would probably take advantage of the boingo wireless membership as well

The only downside is that you will only get 1:1 for travel rather than the 3:1 you get now.

Just realized that they charge 175 per additional card. My fiance is an authorized user on my account for emergencies. Thats a downside as she really wouldn't utilize the benefits.

The lounge access has changed a bit. I actually downgraded from my platinum to preferred rewards gold. I did get a nice 100k signup on my platinum though.

Yeah, I always thought that was a crazy amount for an extra card. I think I have 3 authorized users on my gold and they are free. The platinum extra user is crazy.

The boingo account is pretty good and about a $60/yr value I think.

Just an FYI, if you fly United, it will not get you into their lounge. They are building amex lounges but it will be a few years before they are common.
