Most any reasonable landlord will be fine with you finding someone else to live there. They don't care about you personally, they just want consistent rent. If she needs to move tell her to call the landlord, explain her situation, and tell him she will do the work in finding a new tenant. Just put a listing on craigslist.
Why would you even think about skipping out on rent without exhausting all other options? Doing that will ensure that she pisses of the landlord and he takes action against her. Remember landlords are people too, people can always be negotiated with.
