Nono, wasn't refuting you, was arguing the case why our offensive playcalling has been downright stupid.
If we see 5-6 DBs back there, why are we still trying to throw...
Or better yet
Empty the freaking backfield. Its not like Brees is gonna make off with it for a 40 yard gain. Jeez...

I agree that we need to commit to the run, of course. But I think part of the reason we're running at 5.2 ypc is that we we run so sparingly.
I hate to agree, but I agree.

Is there anything to support that opinion, though?

Being that it's just an opinion, yes. We are known as a passing team.

Its truly just basing it off of history and how defenses adjust when a player/team runs more.
Look the top yardage RBs in the league.
Of the top 10:
3 are >5ypc.
3 are 4.5-4.9ypc
4 are <4.5ypc
Look at last year:

We're running the ball efficently. The problem is we aren't getting the explosive plays like we have in previous seasons (running/passing). What might be the key to get the offense going this year is our RBs busting big runs like we did on Sunday.

mostly we need to run more because the damned guards can't keep Drew's pocket clean.

We will see a different Saints team in two weeks

To OP
My comparison to this is the Lsu sunshine pumpers who keep telling you Miles record but yet everybody can see this guy isn't a good coach.

BTW is Mark Ingram supposed to come back this week or the next?

Saints offense and Drew Brees aren't the reason the Saints are losing.

You don't get to a -6 turnover margin without the offense contributing in some way.

But then again, I don't think any of our players will this week.

We are turning the ball over like crazy, and it's not because we are running the ball too much.

If anything it's poor pass blocking that's causing this. In some of the cases Brees was getting pressured he should have taken the sack, but unfortunately he made bad decisions because of the interior pressure, which costed us some games.

They sure were the reason why we lost to Cleveland and almost lost to TB. They were also part of the equation as to why we lost against Dallas. You could technically blame them for part of the Atlanta loss too.
Defense held up vs. Minny perfectly fine. Defense held up vs. TB until Brees became Favre. Take away the pick 6, and the defense held cleveland to 19 pts. the same cleveland that averaged 25.7ppg in the other 3 games they have played.
Now the Dallas game was a whole, full team shitfest. Atlanta was just taking it raw and the offense not being able to save us, but instead shooting us in the other foot.

I might have to go look at all the play-by-plays in detail, but why do I still feel like if you don't bust a big EXPLOSIVE run for 8-10+ yards in one of the runs on the first dozen or so "scripted" plays, then it's pass pass pass and the empty backfield and the INTs and the predictable screens start coming out.
There was plenty of talk of this phenomenon in the losing years of 2007 and 2008, and it still feels like that. Whether it's true or not, hard to say. But it feels like the PT "invisible man" games or "why aren't we running more?" moments, are games where PT gets bottled up on the first or second running play, and Payton just abandons him and the conventional running game completely, out the window.

Running more is clearly the key here. Control the ball and keep our D off the firld, less predictability and interceptions, O-line will gain confidence.
We still control our destiny, just gotta go with what's worked the first 5 games.
