RB experience relative to playing time

So Miles makes a comment at the SEC conference call today when asked about LF's PT to this point. He rabbled on about how he is pleased with his development but that "a veteran piece certainly would play more". none of us know wtf this means but we get the gist.
Why oh why Les would a veteran piece play more???
Running back is literally the easiest position on the field where a freshman can step right in and play. Assignments at that position are literal with the only decision making needed is on blitz assignments (and those are not overly complicated).
Reasons why a freshman would have trouble getting on the field early (offensively speaking):
QB - immense knowledge of every aspect of the offense. obviously the most difficult to grasp
WR - reading coverage is big here.....some routes change based on coverage
Oline - complex blocking schemes....combo blocks,
RB - none
In terms of LF and DW, there is nothing holding these guys back.
ball security??? Nope, RB's fumbled once as a group this year.........by a senior
Physical development? Nope. both are mack trucks
blitz pick up? nope. this a desire and will......not technique. plus, we dont throw
So why does LF get 4 carries for 25 yards on our only TD drive and then completely disappear until halftime? How many likes does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Personally, and I may be way off, I think Les is more concerned with team cohesion than anything else. He seems like the kind of guy who, as long as you put the work in, will try to please everyone. He's the perfect personality for teeball coach or peewee football coach. And, I think he's an awesome college football coach. I just think he wants everyone to feel involved even if that means less production on the field. I also think he feels the need to honor veteran players.
If it's not that, then I have no earthly idea.

Did I stutter? He's leading the team in carries, yet here you are bitching about playing time based on some half arse comment Les made.

he should have double the carries. I think you know that is the point yet you are intent on being a fricking a-hole

true freshman leading the team in carries and yards and you're bitching. Not surprising for this board
Fournette is going to be something special, but there were 2 solid upper classmen ahead of him. He is contributing in a big way to this team and yet you find a way to bitch.
Find a Dyson and suck the sand out of your vag

He's only getting, what, 11 carries a game? If he's our top back, he should get more carries.

This board is trying to find ways to nit pick and bitch at this point

I wouldn't mind seeing a few more carries per game, but he did only average 17.75 touches as a senior in high school.

TM has taken a step back this year and KH has yet to return to his 2011 form. They are both good backs. Read my post history a-hole, I am always supportive and what you dumb asses would call a "positiger"

Ignorance
explain........
You have certain blitz responsibilities based on the play. You are either filling a gap within the line and becoming an roadblock to inside backer or picking up a nickel or a 3-4 end off the edge. Desire, aggressiveness, and physicality is 90% of blitz pick-up from the halfback position. that is fact

compare his carries to other true freshman, then get back to me.
Also compare every team that is centered on power running, and see how far of a dropoff of it is between the #2 RB carries, and the #3.
You will find that a team with power running at it's base, has either one main back getting the lion share, or a one-two combo where the #3 is far behind in carries.
It's a legit criticism, and could at least solve some of the running problems. We are a power running team, that can't get one RB into a groove.

quote:I agree, but also you need to read the defense and find the blitzer. You also need to be an outlet if the play breaks down. But to say there is no 'technique' involved in blocking a linebacker or corner/safety coming at you full speed while you're stationary is insane. There's a lot of technique involved (as well as desire).

Yeah it's awful. I would be confused/frustrated at this point if I were Fournette.

Leaing the team in carries.... and getting a whopping 11 carries per game, 2-3 per quarter. And its obvious hes the best RB we have and the most efficient, averaging 5.5ypc even with our underwhelming OL and facing 8 man fronts 80% of the time. And hes the type of RB that only gets better the more carries he gets. Hes a workhorse that can help us establish TOP and pick up 1st drives keeping drives alive, and our D on the bench, and wear down the other teams D. Yet Les uses him like a change of pace / 3rd down RB.
Yep... nothin to bitch about here.
LF should see at least 18-20 carries per game, and most likely more. With DWill seeing 8-10 as his backup. And Magee is a great pass blocker and can pick up blitzes as good as any RB in the nation, I like him in obvious passing situations. Hilliard should be behind both LF and DWill.
