frick that shite.
if you're for the north, then yep..lots of meticulously maintained areas.
if you're for the south; that side of the park is a shithole
the ironclad is worth the price of admission though.

Graves are wbere soldiers randomly fell and you can just visualize the battles. Cannons overlooking river, monuments , all very cool.

I think the driving tour through there is awesome. Also check out the ironclad cairo.

Yes. The ironclad is very interesting. Strategically, the fall of Vicksburg was probably more important than the battle of Gettysburg (both happened on roughly the same date).

I've done the tour. In my opinion there are FAR too many monuments. The amount of monuments clutters the battlefield.
The ironclad is much better.

Wife's from V'burg/been there several times. Love going there every chance I get.
Her family was very good friends w/the old dude (Warren Grabau) that found that ironclad (somewhere up the Yazoo, I believe). He's also published a couple of books on Vicksburg, and I was fortunate to meet him/talk a little about the whole deal before he died. Interesting fellow/interesting topic.
Last time I was there, I saw one of the heaviest racked 8/10 points I've ever seen. Crisp December day, about 4:00, and he was just strolling the grounds like he owned the place, without a care in the world.

In my opinion, it is far more enjoyable to simply read about the battle than to visit a cluttered battlefield.

Went a few months ago.
It was excellent. Evidence of the battle is still very clear today with the amount of trenches.
When you get to the Shirley House, make sure you look at this picture from the battle and then look at the landscape today.
And to the poster complaining about monuments, don't go to Gettysburg if you don't like monuments.

Totally worth it and to save time skip the Yankee bullshite and go right to the good guy stuff.
Ed Bears I think has a good overview of the battles and siege, worth a read before you go.

I'm from Vicksburg and have been to the park a bunch. I still think it's worth it to go every time I go back.
I enjoy running there.

We recently bought 113 acres of hunting land thats about 4 miles past the natchez trace between Vicksburg and Utica. I've been wanting to go check the park out between hunts one day.
