Last minute weekend trip to NYC with the wife. Never been to either. Both have great reviews, but GT menu seems somewhat boring.

If you don't have reservations at GT (already), then you will be waiting at least an hour for a table, unless you go at like 5 or 10.

Went to Scarpetta about a month ago, and it was fantastic. You may still be able to get a table there at a decent time on open table. You won't go wrong with either.

eta: just checked open table, and you won't be getting one at scarpetta either

but if you're willing to wait, then you'll enjoy either.

I should add that I'm currently holding Friday evening reservations for both - and need to dump one

Then I'd go to Scarpetta and give Quail Man your GT reservations

I've only been to Scarpetta, and I had an outstanding meal.

That being said, I hear that Gramercy Tavern is fricking nuts. If it were me and I hadn't been to Scarpetta already I'd choose GT blind just based off of reputation.

Think you'll have a superb meal at either restaurant.

Gramercy Tavern was my favorite meal in NYC when I went in December for 4 nights. Ate at great restaurants all four nights, but GT takes the cake.

Edit: the Arctic char I had there was the best fish I've ever had. Even beats the restaurants serving fresh fish in Hawaii that I've been to.

Have not been to Gramercy but Scarpetta is awesome.

Got the tasting menu with wine pairing when I went and it was one of the best meals I have ever had

For the love of God, go to Gramercy Tavern!!! Its not close, especially since you have a reservation. I have lived in NYC as a chef for the past 13 years. It might be the best restaurant in the city. Every cook or chef I know that has worked there is awesome. There are a lot of Scarpetta type restaurants out there, Gramercy Tavern is unique and WAY better.

Totally agree on the GT.

Went about a month ago got the 7 course tasting (which ends up being closer to 12 once you count all the extra goodies).

Arctic Char stood out, butter fish stood out, worst course was probably the red meat course at the end sirloin was good but didn't blow me away.

Pretty good wine selections for the price. Had a bottle of Drinkward Peschon (which I've never seen on a list).

Enjoy it!!
