When I got married wife had two dogs and I had one. Her two dogs have had to be put to sleep recently and she wants another dog. I have a female and would like to get a lab as that is what I grew up with. Should be only be looking for a male? Or is it all dependent on what my dog will put up with? Wife two dogs were a male and female if that helps.

just get some more pitbulls, or maybe a cane corso.

I'd get a male. From my experience, two females never get along. Oddly enough, two males will

generally speaking, two females is the worst gender pairing for dogs and male-female is the best. that being said it depends on the temperament of the dogs. I've seen 2 females coexist fine and I've seen a male-female pairing not work out at all.

This. Is your dog good around other dogs? Is she fixed? You could bring your pit when going to look at the lab pup, and see how she reacts to the pup annoying the shite out of her.

She was good with the two hounds and is good with my sisters boyfriends male jack russell. She is fixed. My only worry is all three dogs were introduced to our house and each other at the same time so none had claimed it as theirs, not sure if she now views it as hers only since she has been the only dog for a few weeks now.

You should be fine.
Do it slowly. start in front yard or drive way for a few minutes with pup and your pit. Then move to the backyard, and let them play for a while, before going into the house. The biggest thing though, don't act scared or concerned that your pit will "protect her territory", she will sense that, and may lash out.
She may do a few warning snaps at the pup, as long as its not too aggressive thats okay, let it play out. Thats her way of letting the pup know that he's crossed the line, and the pup will learn pretty quick

Call the cops, then you can get whatever dog breed or sex you want.

I get the feeling it's not for hunting so screw the lab and get a boxer. Her next dog will be one too.
