And LSU had won the national championship, would your opinion of him be different?

Considering that his last Nc was 7 years ago and most peoples dislike of him starts with that nights performance against Bama, I'm sure it would.

I think the opinion of the entire program would be different. Also, I think it would've been easier to keep kids home... Like last recruiting class.

The problem is the perception that the program has taken. That night caused most of it. Also, the other problem is that Haley has finished second on so many defensive line recruits and it's killing our depth. No one on our defensive line will play in the nfl. When's the last time that's been said?!

You mean would I think more favorably of Les had he led us to a 14-0 national championship? Of course. And I'm not even one of the ppl calling for his head right now.

He would, without question, be the GOAT at LSU and that team would have gone down as one of the greatest teams in college football history...with JJ as QB

so yes, I would that the people that hate him opinions would be different.

We have 14 freshmen and sophomores on our defensive line. There is no way for you to know this currently. Now, it wouldn't be surprising to see zero of our 5 juniors and seniors on the defensive line play in the NFL. But, a guy like Davon Godchaux (who is starting as a true freshman) has a great shot at playing in the NFL.

Too bad the reality is that game was the most embarrassing loss in LSU history.

Yes, absolutely. Most will tell you that the problem they had with Miles and the 2011 NCG was not that LSU lost. Bama was an incredible team as well that year. Completely forgivable to split the series 1-1 with them. Just sucked that the one LSU lost was the one that mattered more.

The problem most people had was HOW LSU lost that game. Watching that game was the only time in my entire life that I've truly believed that the game plan was not designed to win, but rather to lose by the smallest margin possible.

It was, and probably always will be, the most pitiful single-game coaching effort I will ever see (at least offensively).

yea, much different

I don't dislike Miles as a coach and esp as a person, I just think he is kind of a dumbass sometimes with all his weird phrasing, grass eating and game day/ clock management decisions

My impression of Miles was formed in the Tennessee game in 2005 and he has done nothing since to change it. He is not bright, he is a poor game day coach and his coaching philosophy was formed during his days at Michigan and hasn't changed.

He is a good enough recruiter to use LSU's huge recruiting advantages to attract top ten recruiting classes. He coaches conservatively and counts on LSU's superior talent to eventually wear down inferior teams. Against teams with comparable talent, he plays to "have a chance to win it" in the fourth quarter and hopes that his talent will make enough plays to win.

Had he won the 2011 NC then LSU would have been "the" team in the nation and might have garnered the top recruiting classes that Bama got over the next few years. Instead, Bama was "the" team, LSU fell a little behind in recruiting and Miles is getting exposed. If he doesn't have superior talent, then he isn't going to win.

this is true for every coach in that exists

sure, less talented teams will beat more talented teams on occasion, but to win consistently, all coaches rely on talent

"Hypothetically" ... national championships are about the 'best' teams. LSU obviously failed. Coaching has been analyzed ad nauseum.

Hmmm...not true.

Having superior talent and best utilizing existing talent are two different things. You cannot tell me that Auburn was the most talented team in the SEC last year.

It takes a great coach to best utilize existing talent.
