Can't afford him. Graham costs $570,000. Prater commanded $2.1 million/year in Denver and will probably go for something comparable; while his price may go down some because of off-field issues, it will not go down THAT MUCH to make him cheaper than Graham or anywhere close.
Well of course he wouldn't be cheaper than Graham, but that isn't how the salary cap works.

Prater is a proven commodity and teams WITH CAP ROOM will be willing to splurge on something like this.
I wouldn't consider Detroit a team with cap room. They have less available than us this year with Suh and Fairley coming up. They aren't going to be able to keep their guys.

They don't take less money because a team is good or "because they want to get a ring." They just kick and cash checks.
That wasn't what I said though. I said if there was equal money, why wouldn't you pick the team with the easier conditions to kick in. Don't kid yourself either, people like to live in nice places too.

Hate to be a bummer but there is simply not enough money there in the coffers for the Saints to go after Prater in any realistic fashion right now.
I disagree

bullshite. Saints aren't going after Prater strictly because of Payton's stubbornness to stick with Graham at this point. End of story.
for once I agree with Chad. Prater doesnt have a job and has proven to have off field issues. hes a kicker. not some coveted "must sign" FA. if he was, denver wouldve kept him. again, hes a kicker. he would try out for ANY team that called him. we just did not make the call.
if Graham missed any kick on Sunday, Prater would be our kicker. now instead of having a reliable kicker, we will continue to go through this "please dont frick this up" kicker scenario.
but dont kid yourselves that theres some hidden reason why Prater isnt here.

Take off your black and gold glasses. If I'm a big named player I'm not coming to this dumpster fire this year. And you don't have to live in Detroit to play there.
But you go to Detroit instead?

pretty certain this is suh's last year, his franchise tag contract will leave a shite load of space next year.

Yes, I was saying that they were free agents this year
Can't believe Hartley is still costing us over a million this year
And if it is over $2 million, we should have let him walk. Anything under $1.6 was a mistake IMO. You can push that to the $160+ million 2016 season.

Not to mention, the following contracts will probably be up for restructuring or cutting:
Brees - $26.4 million cap hit. This is the offseason where extending him makes cape sense.
Potentially on the block or take less money:
Jahri - $6 million in cap savings
Colston - $4.3
Lofton - $4
Grubbs - $3.6
Hawthorne - $3
Watson - $1.5
Our cap situation isn't near as bad as everyone makes it out to be. We were in a worse spot last year and we resigned Graham + got a $10 million safety

i dont think our cap is the reason we arent signing a new kicker.

he's a drinker. Let's try him out but make sure he is hung over cause that's how he will be kicking if he came to the Saints.
