decided to look back at where the winners of our league drafted and their first picks. Not for strategic purposes, more curiosity and nostalgia.

2004 - 3 of 8 and chose Deuce McCalister
2005 - 4 of 10 and chose Kerry Collins (i regretfully admit it was me )
2006 - 6 of 10 and chose Ronnie Brown (again it was me)
2007 - 10 of 12 and chose LT
2008 - 11 of 12 and chose Gore
2009 - 2 of 12 and chose MJD
2010 - 10 of 12 and chose CJ2K
2011 - 5 of 12 and chose MJD
2012 - 8 of 12 and chose Megatron (me again :D)
2013 - 11 of 12 and chose McCoy

Note the same guy won 09 10 and 11. He drafted Tom Brady for all 3 teams in either the 2nd or 3rd rounds. (6 pt TD league for QBs)

Anyway, thought this was a fun look at the past.

You guys looked back for kicks? What were the results?

If you play in a league with a couple weak players or one that isn't savvy, you can get away drafting an elite QB first and have a lot of success.

Or you can draft elite QBs early in savvy leagues and fill in your roster in late rounds and win that way too.

It's not who you take first, it's your first 4 picks. You can't have 2+ busts in the first 4. You really need all of them to produce as expected, with maybe one exception.

And the winner usually has someone if not two, drafted after round 4 that he gets 2nd-3rd round numbers from.

2011: Tom Brady(10)
2012: Lesean Mccoy(4)
2013: Alfred Morris(9)

All I have since we switched to ESPN. Don't know if I could pull up my old NFL leagues.

I won last year...first 4 picks: Morris, MJD, Roddy White, VJax

I did hit the lotto with Josh Gordon and Knowshon in 9 and 11 though

One year my first 2 picks were Rudi Johnson and Tatum Bell. I didn't do good that year.

i got lesean mccoy and calvin last year at 10 and 11 in a snake draft and got like 8th place. needless to say, i did a poor job in the other rounds.

definitely goes to show that you can strike absolute gold at 1 and 2, but later picks matter a shite load.

My drafts have been historically terrible. Except 2012, i wrecked that draft.

However i always do very well with sleepers, waivers, and trades. Very lucky i guess.
