WRT: Deer Season is finally back edition

Well I spend 35 hours in a tree from 10/1 - 10/5..
The first morning I saw 3 deer, 2 does and a spotty. I couldn't get a shot on the does due to some brush where they came out. The deer were only 16yds away at one point but when I had the shot, I couldn't draw and when I could draw, I didn't have the shot.
That afternoon I sat on a foodplot. This is an elongated plot and it is starting to look good. Traditionally deer walk out about 1/2 down and then walk East towards an oak bottom. Well I was set up in a ladder stand off the plot in great cover for the deer to walk past me and get a shot. At 6:20 (right before sunset), through the brush east of me, I see tines walking away. A great 8pt had come out the creek down the plot of me at 25yds and I had absolutely zero shot!

buck that walked out (this is him passing back, in front the stand this time, at night):
After that exciting first day I only really saw one doe and she also didn't give me a shot that I liked all that much. She was 17-20yds, I would have had to shoot through a 2' opening and just didn't want to take that chance.
We have to do a little stand moving now that we see which oaks are getting hit more than others this season. Have some things to look forward too

Great post! Similar weekend in that I saw plenty of deer just no shots on the ones I wanted. Got set up very early Sat am and waited about 30 min for first light. Saw a large body deer to my left but could not make out if it was a buck or doe (LDWF rules is that for first two weeks it is bucks only). Deer walked up draw towards me and after about 15 min of feeding I could see it was a small 8 pt still in velvet. No shot as it was in some dense vegetation by this time. About an hour later I looked back and saw a large body deer coming down the ridge behind me on a path to pass directly under stand. Very nice 8 point out of velvet and when it was about 10 yds behind the stand it started browsing and stayed in cover for 15 minutes. Then it just meandered to the right and down another ridge so no shot. Sat afternoon saw more does and a decent 6 pt that I passed on. Watched him in range for about 30 minutes so that was pretty exciting. He never winded me and was very comfortable in the area - good sign. Sunday morning saw a lone spike and that was it. I know they are in the area, I just have to be patient.
Great weather to open the season!
Still amazes me how my heart can go from a normal resting beat to overdrive just at the sight of a deer and then what it does when I see a good buck!

Saturday in Trinity bay. No biguns yet still a few weeks early. That front made for a rough and wet trip but managed to limit. Largest 18 inches. All over 15in. Threw back over 100 so not a bad day
Sat night, watched probably the worst game I have seen in years

Posted in a KR thread from Saturday, but what the heck:
I hunted some public land in NWLA Saturday morning with a padnuh. Killed 7 (that Kershaw skinning knife is the tits by the way):
One hung one to his meal:
We also caught a live woodduck that had a broken wing, but let it go. We were going to bring it to a local refuge but were unsure of the law regarding transporting live ducks during hunting season.
We found the woodie on this awesome looking slough and jumped up another 2 dozen:
Sunday, I went and scouted a new 60 acre tract of land I just received permission to hunt. Excited to see what the place hold. Aside from the 4 hours of hell Saturday night, it was a good weekend.
