I'm going to defend Miles' "chain" quote

I don't think he was saying he LITERALLY could not call a timeout because the chains were being moved.
I think he was saying the no huddle offense was clicking keeping the defense on their heels (ie the "chains were moving" by getting first downs) and he didn't want to break the momentum.
I don't necessarily agree with that, but I think that's what he meant.
Also, it's telling they DIDN'T use a timeout because there was NO DESIGNED play in that situation that Harris has practiced. My bet is, like Jordan Jefferson, Harris only practiced a handful of plays before the game and knew those (this inside tidbit on Jefferson was provided by a former LSU receiver).
Miles realized Harris was better winging it than him trying to run a designed play he hadn't really mastered and went with that.

Like I said, not saying I agree with the decision, I'm just correcting the prevailing interpretation of his statement.

Defend a moron who completely fricked up another end-of-half situation and is too stupid to know how to verbally explain himself. Unreal.
Miles had three options there:
1) Timeout.
2) Spike it.
3) Full retard.
Miles, as usual, went full retard. It is indefensible stupidity that you'd be pissed at a JV coach for screwing up.

Some of the worst time management imaginable considering he took that TO to the locker room.

What do you mean by Harris "winging" it? You think Les didn't call in a play and just let Harris run whatever the hell he wanted? The old backyard football "just get open" play?
Posted on 10/5/14 at 10:38 pm to theunknownknight
honestly, I'm pretty sure you're likely right that that is what he meant
however...
It's still stupid, and it's still clock mismanagement. Call the timeout and kick the ball and take the 3 points going into the half.

Meh. Our QBs were running out of the pocket all night.
8 seconds might have been too little to try something. I kick right then and there.

If he spoke English, we wouldn't need an interpreter.

Two minute drill. Plays breaking down. Harris starts playing off instinct.
That's what we were seeing on that drive.

We are on the same page then

That interpretation was horrible and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Best case scenario is that Harris gets the offense up to the line in a hurry, which they did, and he spikes it, which he tried to do. As soon as he got up, the camera was on him and he was signaling to clock it. If we clock it as soon as the ball is set, at worst, we are left with 7 seconds and a timeout. Not only does this mean that you get one shot at the end zone, but the defense also has to defend the entire field including a short pass over the middle since we still have a timeout.
For whatever reason, the coach that has been involved with the game in one capacity or another for 40 something years made the wrong decision when the 18 or 19 year old freshmen knew exactly what should have been done.

I just don't get the point of someone trying to help explain complete incompetence.

I don't know why we even argue about Les and clock management any more. Its well established that he cannot handle this situation. Its happened multiple times.
This is easy to fix. The AD has to hire someone to handle this job for Les and make him give up the responsibility. Just let him be a spectator like everyone else.

You call a timeout there. It is not debatable. You have 10 seconds and then call one play to the endzone. Field goal if that play doesn't work.
Not suggesting getting three there would have changed the game, but that is the proper strategy.

By this job, you mean the head coaching job.
