Recommend a nice youth bolt action rifle

As stated, I'm in the market for a nice youth rifle. I'm thinking either .243 or 7mm-08. Either way, I'd like a decent gun--Remington, ruger, Winchester, browning etc. I'm not looking for anything fancy like a Kimber, but not a savage either. Would prefer wood stock/blued barrel.
What's out there? I'm a little out of the loop on rifles. I have a rem700 and a ruger m77 for myself and both are nice enough.

CVA Apex or T.C encore are great youth guns. Interchangeable stocks and barrels are good as the child can change caliber as he grows or as the need arises. I find that kids who are taught on single shot rifles learn the discipline of making each shot count as well. They are accurate guns and last a long period of time.

I seem to remember weatherby making a youth rifle that came with an adult stock too, so you can switch them out when they grow.

A rem 700 in 7mm-08 is ideal IMO. Take the stock that comes with it off and put a youth stock. When he outgrows it, swap them back.
For the love of all things outdoors don't get a .243

A .243 is a lightning bolt out of Zeus' hands.

Savage might not be a bad option. Most of the youth guns come with scopes. They used to be Bushnell but upgraded to Weaver.

It has been a little while since a .243 fight...

Nothing wrong with savage these days

I misread. If you are looking for a good youth BOLT gun then I would go Savage Axis (yes, they are good) or Remington 700. Get the 7mm-08 in either.

I looked at several and the Remington was heavy and had a thicker forearm

What about a Winchester ultra light compact in 7mm-08?

I dont know what other youth style guns they make. Hell if it was my choice either weather warrior in .270 or lightweight hunter in 6.5 creedmoor.

There aren't many options for savage guns if you want a youth model but I would pass on the axis regardless of the situation.

Browning X-Bolt. 7mm08. Look at the micro hunter. Will be able to use it for life.

Lightweight hunter it is.

I'd go with Winchester, but definitely nothing wrong with Savage rifles these days.
