When did Central City (Nola) become a tourist destination?

I just saw a group of about 20 European tourists walking down Simon Bolivar ave. with some expensive looking cameras. Also, Louisiana Ave Has to be one of the nicest looking hood streets in the country.

Ortha and Simon have had a major upswing in the last several years.

It's possible they were hitting up Cafe Reconcile or something.

No kidding. I drove down Simon Blvd for the first time today since Katrina and the difference is amazing.

They're probably on one of those high adrenaline adventure tours. Wonder if they know there's an exclusion for that in their life insurance policies?

Of course. Most of Nola is a different world after dark.

They added the "Extra Culture" onto their tour package.

Yeah, but what I think he is getting at is this is an area that used to not be overrun with tourists. Now, I get stuck behind sight seeing buses all the time.

Outside of the East and parts Algiers, most of NOLA is not much more dangerous than your average similarly-sized city these days. Regardless, I don't know why you'd walk down Simon -- I'm sure it'd be fine from a safety standpoint (at least 99 times out of 100), but there's just nothing to see over there.

There are some surprisingly beautiful homes and art murals on Simon Blvd but that's pretty much it.

Exactly. And Cab drivers and bikers who act like it's China.

OC Haley is seeing a lot if infill commercial business. Wouldn't surprise me to see it gentrify further in the next several years. Too close to downtown to stay shitty forever.

I saw two hipsters a while back walking in the upper 9th taking pictures and navigating with an ipad. I was thinking, "These people have to be fricked up in the head. I hope they get robbed because they are morons". Two minutes later, I saw a little black kid steal a toolbox from a Mexican working on a house, the kid ran, and the Mexican was chasing him.

Honestly, some people are just stupid and deserved to be robbed. You can say what you want, but they put themselves in that position.

I mean frick, if you're walking through a pack of lions with steaks tied to your body, what do you think is gonna happen? Should you be mad at the lions for doing what they do?

It's crazy to watch certain areas change. I lived near Freret a few years ago and rent is now at least 50% more than back then. OC Haley is starting to show the same changes, but with larger buildings requiring heavier investment. Jack and Jake's is going to be a big draw.

There is that Central City Historic District thingy at SB and Jackson?

Professor Longhair's house on Terpsichore?

Museum of the American Cocktail on OC Haley?
