So a Rottweiler/Pit bull mix almost killed my girlfriends dog tonight.

Scary situation. My girlfriend has a little dachshund and this other dog got her around the neck. Me and a buddy punched it about 30 times before it let go. Pretty humbling situation. We were wailing on this thing, cut it's eye and busted its jaw and it didn't even flinch. Anybody else have something like this happen?

Unfortunately both dogs would have been shot.

Good point. I didn't think of that

Yes was walking my yellow lab when she was about 8 months old and a full grown German Shepard jumped the brick fence and attacked my dog. I felt completely helpless but eventually the owner was able to get the dog off. Felt like forever to me but was probably all in a matter of a minute. I was pretty sure my dog was going to die, luckily ended up fine.

You refer to your girlfriend/wife like this?

I can and have opened a pitbulls jaw in full clench off another dog. It isn't that hard. That said, sorry to hear about your daughter/girlfriend(not clear in op) I hope she gets better and isn't scarred(physically or emotionally)

Yeah all that got handled.
It was just weird punching that thing to no avail. I've knocked grown men out cold and I popped that dog as hard as I could and nothing. I was glad he finally let go. My hand was killing me.

Also, dachshunds are notorious for being aggressive towards bigger dogs. They get fricked up quite a bit because of that

Sorry to hear this Matt
You should be in jail for animal cruelty though it sounds like

You started this thread just to say this

Then there'd be two dead dogs

Actually I started this thread to get tips on what to do if/when something like this happened again.

We've got an internet badass over here. Even if you aren't full of shite, sweet sample size. You must have found the wimpiest dog of all time. Unclenching a jaw just means a dog can clinch back on to your hand. I've seen people get stitches from trying to break up fights with much smaller dogs.

Carry a pocket knife and cut the dogs throat. It should let go after that
